Paul Shibata and Craig Lister on the Water Class Act

Post by BobbyJordan »

I know Paul Shibata is a regular contributor to this forum and is always forthcoming in the info he shares with us on how to find and catch fish. I wanted to let yoy all know that I also experienced his sportsmanship this weekend at Q2 for Renegade on Big Rideau Lake. My partner Stefan Wenek and I were fishing a large point when Paul and Craig pulled up on the same spot only minutes after we arrived. Although there was lots of water to fish in that area Paul gave us a friendly wave and moved on to another spot, leaving us to fish the whole area. He could have easily dropped his motorguide and fished the area with us, but instead decided to leave and allow us to fish there. I thanked Paul after the event, but wanted to let all of you know that he doesn't just know how to catch them...he also demonstrates a great commitment to sportsmanship, even when the stakes are high in a competitive event like Renegade. As much as Paul has taught me about catching fish, this was perhaps his best lesson to me. Good on ya Paul and Craig.

Good of you to mention this here. Too many of these actions go unmentioned.
You should also post it on the Renegade forum.

Congratulations again to you and Stefan on your 5th place Q2 finish.

I'm not surprised to hear this about Paul one bit. Every time I have met him, he has always been a very cordial fellow. Glad to hear that transfers to his competitive side!

Congrats Bobby and Steph on a great result on Big Rideau .. I know in the past the results have not come easy on that body of water but your perseverance and hard work has paid off.

I've only known Paul for a couple of years but I can tell you that every time I talk to him, I'm a better fisherman and more knowledgeable because of it. He seems to me to be that rare combination of the kind of guy that is a fierce competitor but has the ability to temper that with true sportsmanship. I only know Craig through the seminars that he has given in the Renegade Masters Development Program, but you could tell he has a passion for fishing and no qualms about sharing his experiences .. so your story does not surprise me in the least.

You guys are all too nice!! Truth be told when we realized it was Bobby and Stef, we figured it couldn't be a very good spot. We made a quick decision to spot suck a better team

As competitive as we are we just treat others how we'd like to be treated. Pretty simple, plus paying it forward is a good example to set for others.

Thank you for the unnecessary mention!! And we'll done on a tough day.
