Any Moose Hunters?

Post by LeGrand »

Any members of the Forum hunt moose (Ontario / Quebec)?

When are you guys planning on heading-out? And will it be for bow or rifle season.

Last few years I've been going for bow season in late September.

Week of Thanksgiving, yeah, that was the start for many years of my old rifle season (spent the week = 10 days). The wife and relatives appreciated me finally going in the archery season.

Yup I hunt bullwinkles :D

We go up for rifle for the opening in 12A. What a long drive but what a great trip.

We leave for 10 days. We normally leave in the wee hours to get there by the Thursday and then check things out on the Friday so we're all good to go on the Saturday for the opener.

Back home the following Saturday / Sunday depending on the drive home and weather on our way back.

I can't wait to find out in August if we get to go or not.

I hate those damn, thieving cousins of the Blue Jay though!
Those Whiskey Jacks will steal food right out of your hand!!

Good luck with the tag. I know how difficult the Province of Ontario's allocation system is. During archery season, we are allowed either a bull, cow, or calf.

I'm working on getting two guys to come and join me for archery mid-late september for long weekends. One of the guy will be away in France for a week starting spet 19 (opening day). I've got a canada geese guided hunt booked for Sept 30, Oct 1st, with MagnumHunt, so can't spend the whole last week moose hunting.

Believe you have to participate in a special draw for Larose Forest. Good luck, if it is not to late for this Fall.

Specialized permits must be applied for through the Prescott Municipal office. If not mistaken its Archery only and even then you had to have won a tag in that WMU.

Its a rare heard from the Mer-Bleu to the Larose Forest. They want to maintain it.

Not to mention those moose look like $hit! Full of parasites. I had a girlfriend who lived in Carlsbad years ago and we'd see moose every now and then when we went for "walks" in the woods....

I hunt Moose in a group - Ontario
Our group has been hunting moose for 20+ years, I joined the group 2 years ago, but didn't make it last year due to work sched. Hoping we get a cow or bull tag this year. Else will be going for a calf closer to home. Our Moose group is rifle only, but I do bow-hunt deer.
