Winter goose hunt

Post by wheresdad »

Has anyone ever hunted the 1 week winter season for Canadas? This year it's from 27-Feb - 6-Mar.

Are you looking for open water during this week?

Are you hunting resident geese or early returns from down south?

I've developed a taste for goose meat from my first hunt this year and was wondering if there was any serious chance of hunting that week.

Cheers,
Ray

I have hunted the "Spring" season but as far as I know the only area that still offers it is in South western Ontario in the Port Dover area.

The birds hunted are residents but that is of course depending on the migration and warmer weather

The hunt is geese roosting on erie and coming in-land to feed.

It can be spotty with frigid days keeping the birds on the lake. But by and large the shooting is first rate and the weather there is far more moderate than here.

Ray if you are interested in giving it a go the easiest way is by contacting Gord Ives or Jack Crotta at Grindem Outfitters. Great guys, I have hunted with them both and you will have a great time!
