I was scouting turkey's today with my father on the ranch. We seen a group of 7 toms and they were all acting up and strutting around like they own the place.
In amongst these birds was another bird. Upon closer inspection we noted that it was a male peacock! It is a beautiful bird with the bluest head feathers ever, and the tail was massive, about six feet tall when fanned out and in full display.
He sure put those old toms to shame when he let that fan fluff out!
My question is, if a chance arises, can i shot this bird? and if so and will only do so, if it is edible?
Has anyone ever see such a thing?
i will try to get pic of him Monday when hunting!

Can't see any reason why you couldn't shoot it, but would wonder why you would. Do you plan on eating it, quick google search reveals mixed opinions, but that it is not a sought after meal, must be too dry, or not taste that great. There is no peacock season that I know of, but if we were in Asia, they are an endangered species.

I would not shoot this bird unless it was a tasty treat. However, I would like to add this specimens feathers to my collection of past successes.
Oddly, there has been 2 peahens spotted in the area as well.
Breeding?
Invasive?
Obligated to do my part?
I just don't know?

I know guys that get to hunt them year round because they escaped. Not sure if that's any different but not sure why you couldn't shoot a peacock or fallow deer.
