Opening day success

Post by RobM »

We had 5 guys present for opening day. The new guy shot a small buck (single antler with 3 points) in the morning. Not bad for his first day. I got to break in my new Tikka T3 on a nice 9 pointer in the afternoon.

We saw or heard several other deer over the day as well. It was much better than the last two previous years. Overall, it was a great day!

Hey, as long as I am warm and dry! I think the blue long underwear shirt looks dumber than the boots though. I just need a big "S" on the front and I am set for next Halloween.

I shot another buck yesterday (I love party hunting). We have only been out 2 days, but we have bagged 3 deer. I think we have spent more time dragging them out of the bush then actually hunting.

Is everyone else having the same success?

No. I joined this group about 4 years ago... they hunt "if its brown its down" style as do the two other groups in the area... there are no deer left... well, very, very few... blame everything, but this year is the first year the group blanked... It'll be my first deer-less year if I do not get one when i'm out bow-hunting...

I could have shot doe's on the first day, but no tags... other than that, no one saw any deer at all... sad really...

i'm envious of your success and well managed deer population.

and I like the boots... (I have 2 pairs of the same kind)

Congrats on the deer!
We had success opening day with one 8pt buck harvested. Later in the week someone in our group shot a spike. My antlerless tag is still in my pocket... I did let a yearling doe walk this week, but hope to fill my tag next week or during muzzleloader.
