Does anyone know the distance you would need to be away from a school or dorm to legally hunt with guns? Local school in brockille is potentially having an issue with this, they asked me since I hunt but it's nothing I've ever came across, I hunt far away from anything so I've never looked into it, I did a quick skin of regs but I'm unclear

Not a hunter but best answer if likley going to come from MNR. May also want to call the municipality:
Municipal By-laws
Some municipalities have by-laws restricting the discharge
of firearms. In addition, many municipalities have by-laws
regarding dogs, including by-laws that may affect the use of dogs
while hunting. Check with the local municipal office for details.

I remember looking this up a few years ago in Ottawa and it was something crazy like 1km.

Many years back me and a bud were duck hunting a pond out towards Munster. Someone reported the shooting and bylaw showed up. At that time we were told that you had to be a 1/4 mile away from any dwelling. We were close to that for sure but didn't get into any trouble. He was cool and just told us to pack it in. But like I said that was quite a while back.

Cheers

What school? I don't think you can shoot anywhere in Brockville. I live in brockville and am new to bird hunting. I've had a hell of time figuring out where I can legally shoot. I have called MNR, township by law offices, police, opp, etc. Most are clueless. I have found the bylaw for my township, Elizabeth town kitkey, which surrounds brockville and here's the most clear cut rules I've been able to find anywhere:

The Corporation of the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley
By-law Number 05-04
BEING A BY-LAW TO PROHIBIT THE DISCHARGE OF GUNS OR
OTHER FIRE ARMS IN CERTAIN AREAS
WHEREAS the Municipal Act, 2001, Section 130 states that a municipality may
regulate matters not specifically provided for by this Act or any other Act for
purposes related to the health, safety and well-being of the inhabitants of the
municipality;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to prohibit the discharge of guns or other
firearms, air guns and spring guns within the area of the municipality hereinafter
defined.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of
Elizabethtown-Kitley enacts as follows:
1. No person shall discharge a gun or other firearm, air gun or spring gun
within the areas designated as hamlets, settlement areas and subdivision
residential in the Township’s Official Plan(s).
2. No person shall discharge a gun or other firearm, air gun or spring gun
within the area of the Township bounded on the north by the southerly
limit of County Road 2, and on the south by the water’s edge of the
northerly bank of the St. Lawrence River from the Township’s easterly
boundary to its westerly boundary.
3. No person shall discharge a gun or other firearm, air gun or spring gun
within the area bounded on the north by the waters edge of the northerly
bank of the St. Lawrence River and southerly distance of three hundred
yards from the waters edge.
4. Every person who contravenes the provisions of this by-law is guilty of
an offence and under conviction is liable to a penalty not exceeding
$1,000.00, exclusive of costs, under the Provincial Offences Act.
5. By-laws 1713 and 87-59 of the geographic Township of Elizabethtown
are hereby repealed in their entirety.
6. This by-law comes into force and effect upon the final passing thereof,
and may be referred to as the Discharge of Firearms Prohibition By-law.
Read a First and Second time this 10th day of January , 2005.
Read a Third time and finally Passed this 24th day of January , 2005.

They make it so hard to figure out the rules. I doubt discharging a firearm anywhere in brockville or near the shore of the Larry is legal. If anyone has a suggestion for me to try, send me a pm. It sure is tough to find a public place to hunt. but I sure as hell wouldn't try anywhere near a school or city!

Not sure if they would have the answer, but they may be a good resource to check.

Is there any new information on this and maybe something has changed in five years. Because through the website I do not understand how to check this and in the documentation could not find an answer.
