Turkey Season

Hey Everyone, just thought I'd check in on how everyone's turkey season has been going so far. Have you been hearing gobbles, or lucky enough to bag a bird or two yet.

Just to share my experience, this is me and my wife's second year of turkey hunting together (her second year hunting ever). We look forward to it all year and she's impressed me with how good she's gotten with a pot call. We went out Sunday morning, heard lots of gobbles while they were still roosting. Lots of shooting in the adjacent fields between shooting light and 7am. Everything went quiet for a while. All of a sudden around 8am we spotted 2 young jakes come to check out our decoys. Given that I have a lot more flexibility in my work schedule, I said she could take the first shot, then changed my mind and asked her to give me a countdown of when she would pull the trigger so I could have a crack at the other bird. Within a matter of seconds, we were extremely lucky and fortunate to close out our season before 8:30am on opening day, as we're not looking to get out for additional birds.

Congrats to you and your wife! Nice birds.

I scored my first yesterday with the bow.

Very nice bird RJ, and congrats on the bow kill. I'm going to try the crossbow next year, and eventually I'll get back into the compound action. Clearly I need to take notes on displaying birds better.
