Dog River Lure Company is located in St. Joachim, ON. Their bucktails are of the best quality, hand tied and scrutinized for the finest of workmanship. Their colour patterns are tried and true patterns used by fisherman over the years with much success. The much sought after fluted blades are manufactured from high quality solid brass for corrosion resistance and are .018 in thickness. They are available in Nickel, Gold or Black Nickel plating. The company uses 5/0 Eagle Claw 4X Trebles on all our bucktails, designed for big pike and musky, with their lure bodies made of solid brass construction. The wire shafts are from the highest quality torsion straightened stainless steel available. They are .062 in diameter to resist bending from the largest of fish and run true every time.

Fish-Hawk will be reviewing these baits in 2010.

The Review:
If you like Bucktails, you'll love the St. Claire Hound. The strength of these baits is astounding. Even the feel and weight of them leads you to a confidence level of landing a monster.

As mentioned above, the St. Claire Hound is made of some of the strongest material you will ever find in a bucktail bait. Their color patterns are vast and interesting, and the blades on these puppies are fantastic. Even with the ones they come with, if you don't like them, you can switch them out for colors that you do like and feel confident with.

The other intesting factor that I found with these baits is that the weight of them allow you to get that bait down to where the fish may be, but still allow you to burn them through the water with multiple blades spinning and flashing, without breaking your arms or wrist. They move very well reeling slowly or burning them back to the boat.

While I was not successful this year in landing a Musky on one of these baits, I am confident they'll produce monsters in the years to come, and we'll get o showcase them here.

Other comments received from members of Muskies Canada and Capital Muskies, who tried them out also rate them high on their list of preferred Bucktail baits, and we all look forward to the opportunity to toss them again and again.
