The Hog Head Tail baits are a unique creature indeed, consisting of a White Cedar Head with a Custom Injection molded tail. This baits stands out from the crowd; it has a .115 custom tooled shaft sticking out over 1.5 inches from the end of the tail blade, making it easier for hook ups on those fish that just nip away at the tail. The bait also contains Color Tech Fish coating a patent pending process developed by Hog Head LLC. The tails are punched and bent exactly the same giving the bait a consistent pop, if your interested in seeing the Hog Head in Action our DVD has several strikes as well as a nice Muskie humping water behind a Hog head and eating on a figure 8 boat side. We appreciate you looking at the Hog Head Tail bait.

The Hog Head Creeper was put in the line almost by accident, we were looking for a Creeper that had a wider swing would produce a louder punch when fished with a moderate retrieve, and we wanted this for our own use. After playing with the design and testing it Developer Don Schwartz and his Canadian fishing friends thought it would be crazy not to offer the bait to the public. The bait seemed real forgiving after the original protos were produced. Ironically enough we used several wood Protos produced on our lathe with moderate success, we fund the head and tail that worked consistently the best was the same head use on the Hog Head Tail bait. This is an excellent creeper, you won’t be disappointed.

Fish-Hawk will be reviewing these baits in 2010.

The Review:
Hog Head Lures provided us with a couple of beautiful baits to try out this past season.

One of them was called a Creeper Bait, which to me looked like initially like a giant dragon fly....wings and all. When I first looked at this bait, I thought to myself...wow, will this thing ever move some water around and I can't wait to try it out. With what look like collapsable fins on hinges that fold forward and backward, locking into place in the open position, the resistance it should have in the water is bound to attract a few monsters.

The other bait we tried out was called a Tail Walker. This bait is very similar to a Top Raider, with a spinning propeller like tail end, designed to go faster the faster you real it in and basically propels itself though the water, throwing H2O everywhere behind it.

The thing I liked best about these 2 baits was the gorgeous finish and attention to detail in the craftsmanship of the bait.

From a durability perspective, both of them lasted very well throughout the season. Mind you, these are not baits you bounce off rocks, get caught in trees, or smash up against the side of the boat. From what I can tell, the Creeper bait is meant to be fished very...very...very...s l o w l y....almost painstakenly slow. If fished too fast, it wouldn't "walk" or creep across the water...it would spin. I found it very difficult to get a feel for the action on this bait, though the concept was interesting enough.

The Tail Bait was by far a better choice for me. I really enjoy the action of a Top Raider, and this bait performed equally as attractive, but with a nicer finish and what I would consider a better useability design. I could throw this bait all day long, cast it a mile, change up speeds and cover a lot of water, while the Creeper was far less a bait to keep me occupied and amused...being a preferable fast caster to "find" those monsters.

Hog Head Lures have some great baits, beautifully designed and finished, but perhaps need a few tweaks on some of them to keep the interest of different types of anglers.

Creeper = <img src="http://www.fish-hawk.net/hawk-pic/produ ... /3hawk.gif">

Tailbait = <img src="http://www.fish-hawk.net/hawk-pic/produ ... /4hawk.gif">

With a rating of 3 Stars, Hog Head Lures Creeper Baits need either a little more work with the bait, or a little more experience for the user.

For the Tailbait though, with a rating of 4 stars, we'll consider this one a Fish-Hawk "Proven Product", and you can be sure that I'll use it over and over again.

Proof in the pudding.....Lac Seul 2010.
