Calling all non-powered watercraft fishermen in the area

Hey guys,

I have been giving this a lot of thought and I think it's time to start a social group of paddlers. This social group will start as getting together at a centrally located venue (bar) once a month to talk about fishing, plan outings together, etc. Once this group starts to grow we could start bringing guest speakers and do some gear swap during late winter/early spring. I find the non-fishing season is too long and at least getting together and talking about our common interest would be a fun way to do what we love to do: paddling and fishing.

I would first like to know if there's is an interest and try meeting say next month just as a trial. If there is acceptance, we will do it every month.

Let's do a show of hands by commenting below....who's in?

Cheers!
Roberto

That's cool Choke. You wouldn't need to drink necessarily. I'm not a drinker either but it's just about socializing off the water since on-the-water there is not much socializing due to the nature of kayaking. The only socializing that happens is before launching and after a long day on the water when people only want/need to hit the road back home.

Think about it. It would be fun shooting the $hit one night a month and planning outings together during the season.

All the best and I would definitely love meeting you on the water!

I've been thinking of getting into the kayak fishing as well and having a get together like you said is a good idea for sure. Meet new people and talk fishing and enjoying a cold one at the same time..

Jul, that's the spirit! If you know others that are thinking the same way as you, bring them along when we decide on a time and place. Meanwhile, if you are seriously considering it, I have an extra kayak you can borrow and we can go together once the season starts.

Let's keep that interest going guys!

Choke wrote:I also have an extra yak. And I'm willing to cart it out to the water if someone wants to try it. I work out of town a lot in the spring summer and fall. But when I'm not working I'm fishing. So I'll try my best to show face.
Awesome Choke, thank you and hope you can make it once we decide on a place and date.

I have a Jackson Kayak Kilroy and a Tupelo 12.5. The Tupelo is my wife's (girly colour) and I don't mind isnt that. You can use the Kilroy.

Jul, Really I fish everywhere I can, that's the beauty of kayak fishing. You don't have to worry about finding a launch or a publicly accessible point. I love fishing the Ottawa River in Beachburg but I go to Taylor lake, Mississippi Lake, etc. I'm open to suggestions. I have also fished in NY, even in Tennessee last year at the Jackson Kayak Dealer Summit.

It's such a fun sport.

Hope to see you at the get-together!

Cheers!

Hey guys,

That's great! I'm happy that this is turning to have a better acceptance than it was initially looking.

I'll tell you what, let's all wait until March Break is over since many people are away. Why don't we set something up for Tuesday March 22nd at the Clock Tower on Bank Street at the Queensway @ 7:00 pm? Mark your calendars and let's make it happen. I will call to make the reservation next week and I will call the group KAAO (Kayak Anglers Association of the Outaouais). So it will be a "KAAOtic" group! Bring your friends and lets get ready for a fun season of kayak (or canoe) fishing!

Cheers to all!
Roberto.

Cheers!
