OIL viscosity

Post by mikemicropterus »

:D Hey Captain, if you use synthetic engine oil I would you would have mininmal problems and do little harm to your engine.

Here's the thing. And most engines suffer from it and that is wear from start-up. The better the oil the less the damage will be. Why????

OIL VISCOSITY the ability for the oil to stay where it is and not be pulled off the cylinder by gravity. So they create oils that stay viscous and stick to the cylinder wall and in between the bearings until more is delivered by pressure or rotation. In a car which is driven most everyday in this country crappy oil is tolerated but if you left the engine for a week or more between operating it the wear would become more evident than in an engine run with REALLY good or synthetic oil.

ALL OIL IS OR ALL IT DOES IS ACT AS A CARRYING AGENT FOR THE ADDITIVES and that is what does most of the lubrication. It's the downtime that detroys the motors and every engine has so many heat cycles before it expires. Thats why highway vehicles get so many more miles on them than do city, more miles done during one heat cycle. As any motor cools it conensates and the opil is designed to hold that moisture in suspension for a period of time and no do any damage, corrode, to the engine. The oil pan is a dirty contaminated cancerous place. So is OIL.

If your intention its to run the engine during the off season then use synthetic oil and make sure there is no moisture captured arond the engine after it is shut off, open the hatch until the motor is cool to touch
