On October 18, 2008, the fishing industry, and many of "Big" Jim's friends are coming together to give back to a man who has given so much of his time, knowledge, and charisma to the great sport of Angling.

"Big" Jim, publisher of Just Fishing Magazine, has represented Shimano and Minto for many years, just to name a couple. You may have often seen him working Boat and Fishing Shows in Ontario, showing new products to people, teaching them how to use them in the most effective manner, or just shooting the breeze with fellow anglers. Jim always has a smile on his face and is willing to talk to people no matter what their skill level in the game of Fishing.

This Appreciation Day is just that. It's a time for 200 of his fellow anglers and friends to meet in one place, hear some great stories about Jim, socialize with each other, trade fishing secrets and knowledge, and have a few Fajitas to boot. It's a time to appreciate the man who has been such an "icon" in most every angler's life.

In order to help Jim out, the evening will host several "Silent Auctions" for some great products and services. We encourage you to come prepared to have a look at what will be offered and make a bid. All funds raised from these Silent Auctions will go directly towards Jim's Appreciation to help he and his family out with the many expenses that will be incurred during his fight with cancer. Whether he needs the help or not, we're going to be there for him!

From a Fish-Hawk perspective, "Big" Jim has always been there for us. He has provided MC duties at many charity Ice Fishing Derbies we've held, has come to Fish-Hawk Adventure Weekends to give little talks about fishing to the guests and show off some of his knowledge, and is always willing to help out when functions are happening, often driving for hours to make it on time in his busy schedule of activities. It's time for Fish-Hawk to give back to "Big" Jim, and we'll be there for him.

Are you guys getting a table together?

If you are would it be alright if I joined you guys?

I would like to go but hesitated to because I would have been going solo

J,

I'll be there, and whether people are going solo or not, there will always be room to welcome anyone who wants to join others.

It's one of those functions of socializing, interacting, and mingling with others, along with listening to some keynote speakers and of course checking out the many Auction items that will be available to snap up at great deals.

Don't worry, you won't be left sitting in the corner playing with your home made baits......unless you want to that is......then I'll still join ya. :)

Cheers,

I will also be attending this great event. I am really looking forward to some of the great speakers that are going to be there and I have heard that there is some amazing items for the Silent Auction. Does anyone know if we have to wear a suit and tie to this event???? :? I really don't like getting dressed up too much

Hey Fishmaster,

I really don't think a suit and tie are in order as it will be held at the Lone Star Ranch here in Ottawa around a buffet of Fajitas, however if you're so inclinded to dress up for the occasion, to each is own, but cowboy boots and big belt buckles might fit in more. I'll be heading out business casual so to speak, and of course sporting my Fish-Hawk hat.

If you are heading out, and have a hat, let's show Jim just how many of us Fish-Hawkers are there to appreciate the man who's given so much to us, wear your hat.......unless of course you're dressing in a suit, then a ball hat and suit just doesn't cut it.

Jim stood up for me to MC the Kpin Ice Derby, when I was too sick to even speak on my own behalf and thank everyone for their hard work and kind gestures.

Imagine my loss of words when Big Jim, little time later was afflicted with something similar.

An amazing chance of events, a true gent, who wished to support this cause but couldn't attend, combined with a twist of fate= my sincere thanks and a kind gift of his ticket....give me the unique opportunity to support a good man, who supported me in my time of need.
