Weird growth

About a week ago I landed what appeared to be a healthy 19 and change inch Walleye. On its underside however was a strange growth which began lightly bleeding as it flipped around in my net. I'd never seen this, it was pinkish and about the size of a chocolate covered almond (sorry 1st thing that came to mind as I just ate a few). I didn't much consider keeping the fish as it was close to outside of the slot size as I was in FMZ 18 but also because of the abnormality.

Has anybody else seen this? What is it? Pictured is the fish, but I kept the growth out of it.

The growth was likely lymphocystis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymphocystis

Here are a couple extreme examples:

Fish with lymphocystis are safe to eat, though in extreme cases they don't look very appetizing.
