Just what the title says....anything and everything related to Rods, Reels, Terminal Tackle, Plastics, what others are using, what works, what doesn't work, and anything else you want to talk about regarding equipment.
Which Ratio would you suggest for the T3 MX?
What ratio were you using for Jerk Baits?
I was using 7.1:1 and I think that I was picking up the slack line too fast, thus the reason for getting a 6.3:1
I know this question wasn't directed at me but I used a 8.1 and thought I was picking up slack too fast too. I like the 6.3 personally, I also was using an Alphas Type F which is 5.7 or 5.8 on my Flat Side Special mainly for crankbaits but when I did use it for jerkbaits, I also liked that. So 6.3 or less for me with 6.3 being ideal.
What jerkbaits are you guys using these days??
I wish I had seen the IMA Flits Ed had in his bin sooner, those things are KILLER! Lost the white last time out though......
I read a few posts on TT where some were using 5.4:1 for jerk baits.
I'll go with the 6.3:1 because (IMO) it's more versatile.
Mostly megabass vision 110's. Perch and was excellent for us Tennessee shad also produced.
I'll have to pay more attention to the bins.

Yeah, me too. Those colours also produced well for me. I actually just got an awesome deal on kijiji for a handful of 110s, a XPOD and a couple Jackall lures which was surprising.
The Squadminnows are nice too, bigger profile and I liked their action. They produced well for me this year too. I was really surprised at how much I liked the IMA's, too bad I hadn't tried them earlier.

I was using the MGX, 7.1:1
I prefer jerking twice for a more erratic action, long sweeps with 2x jerks will engage lots of side to side play for the 110's.
I prefer a faster ratio for my type of smallie fishing, god knows they jump and bulldog, so picking up the slack quickly is my main concern (if needed).
The 6.3:1 T3 MX would be fine.
I highly doubt a 2inch (6.3:1 VS 7.1:1) variance would make a difference....that's what she said!
Preferred colour was Bluegill....it got us a cheque!

Maybe a little late to this conversation but I have 2 Ballistics, one of them I bought from biggs back in the summer.
Good reels for jerkbaits. They are light, cast a freaking mile and have decent drags. Not hard to spend all day chucking it. I've got both of them rigged with #12 XPS fluoro.
I'll step aside so the utlra-gearhead conversation can resume.....
For your frogging rod, I think the CH150CI4+ would be better for you. It will hold more of the heavier braid most commonly used for frogging. The team gold speed spool is an awesome reel but I would be worried oabout casting down to the backing with that reel. This is my first Lew's reel and it works great. I wasn't sold on those nobs, but once you get used to them, you don't want to go back to anything else. I like them even more than the septon grips.

You're right Adam. I've been thinking the exact same thing and the CI4 is back on the list.
Or I may get a lighter spool (JDM type) for my ABU premier 7.1:1
The money saved could go towards another rod.
Or a used Core.

Especially with the X-Ship bringing more stability under heavier loads.

Notice Daiwa's Tatula knobs...looking forward to the reviews from people knocking on the Lew's knobs.

The knobs on the Tatula look quite similar to the lew's ones. That reel is quite nice for that price point. I could see the citica and curado taking a huge hit in sales. It is nice enough that I might even consider a daiwa next time.

The price point is what will get people interested. Add $50 and you get an upgraded Tatula R version.
I can't see those reels (Plain or R version) being any better than the Lew's TP or the Chronarch 200E.

The Tatula's weight and overall width is holding me back....but then again at that price!
The T-Wing system is also very interesting.

I handled one today mounted on a reel of course and it really isn't that bad.
I've been reading up on the Magforce 3D Cast Control System.
I think that this has to be the best braking system on the market today.
The Zillion Type R looks interesting. Expensive.... but a real work horse.
