I handled one today mounted on a reel of course and it really isn't that bad.
From what I've read and seen, it's only the front portion that is slightly wider...comparable to a T3?
I can live with the 7.6 oz of the Type R, wish they could of shredded a little more weight to it.

Would you rather buy the stock Tatula and upgrade?

I've been reading up on the Magforce 3D Cast Control System and I think that this has to be the best braking system on the market today.
It is my personal favorite braking system bar none. Unfortunately the Tatula doesn't use Magforce 3D. It uses Magforce Z which is also a great braking system IMO.

Yeah, the front seemed to be wider to accomodate the T-Wing and it tapered back a bit. I didn't feel like it was too big or heavy but thats me, I use a Zillion (8.8oz) for frogs so weight doesn't really bother me too too much but also having it paired with a 736 which is IMO the best balancing Dobyns doesn't hurt.

Get rid of those god aweful Lew's knobs to lose some weight!......just kidding, they were actually quite comfortable and the rubber felt like they had a ton of grip.

I've already got a Type R lined up so thats what I'll be going with, I am a believer in the t-wing and really want to try this reel.

Biggs, I haven't held a Tatula yet and have only seen them online. Where did you find it around here? I wouldn't mind seeing one in person sooner or later.

OK.......if anyone decides to get a T3, do not use it with a spiral wrapped rod!!! Now you know.

Biggs,

I would think the T3 MX shares the same identical frame platform (size) as the Ballistic?
I can get a feel on a Ballistic and expect the same palming for the T3 MX right?

Thanks

I'm rethinking the T3 MX .....
Here is a caption from another forum that got me thinking that the T3 is probably not for me.

"One more thing to note is that I love the way this reel palms. It's extremely comfortable to hold. I really like the little rubber grips, nice touch. If I had one bad thing to comment on, it's that stinkin' levelwind cap. I like to wrap my index finger around the front of the reel and that just doesn't work. I tried it, but kept feeling that cap coming across hitting my finger, and even pinched my finger in there once. Had to adjust my index finger up on the blank, which isn't a bad thing; just not as comfortable for me."

I also palm my reels with the index finger wrapped around the front of the reel and that level-wind cap coming across and hitting my finger is a showstopper for me.

You would be correct but I would just same the same feel palming wise, IMO when turning the handle there is a noticable difference between the two with the MX felling smoother and less geary if that makes sense.

This is my intended setup for next season, XX Jerk and T3 MX.

Is the Alpha a personal preference or is there something to it in particular that would enhance a jerkbait setup?

just personal prefference, i will switch the T3 for swimbaits or lipless crank.

a plus for the t3 is the zaion is great for winter use, no frozen thumb like my conquest or alphas....
