FG Braid to Flouro knot.

Just what the title says....anything and everything related to Rods, Reels, Terminal Tackle, Plastics, what others are using, what works, what doesn't work, and anything else you want to talk about regarding equipment.

FG Braid to Flouro knot.

Post by lape0019 »

I just watched this video on another forum and must say the FG knot this guy was trying has me intrigued. He says it won the strongest knot for braid to flouro.

Guess I have a new not to try this year but I am wondering if any of you have used this and if it was successful? It looks extremely thin which is what I like.

Looks like I added the wrong video!

Thanks Mav for walking me through adding this as a direct video instead of a link. Now I know it is right.

I use it all the time - great knot.

I mainly use it when attaching mono-shock leaders to my braid mainline on surfcasting gear. Runs through the eyes really well, never catches.

Haven't watched the video yet but be sure to cut the mono / flouro on a long slant so that it's tappered for the best use.

Michael,

That is a great suggestion.

What the guy does to get rid of that problem is he adds two more cinch knots after he has cut the tag end down. He explains he does this to bury the tag in the knot so it doesn't get tangled in the eyes.

Having trouble seeing the clip. Will try later.

My best knot is the "Stren".

I've had no issues with this knot, been using for a few years now.

i find this knot easy to do on and off the water. the ring saver helps but i don't use it on the water, only when prepping at home.

I have never seen this knot before. Will definitely be trying it this year. I usually tie a uni to uni, but have never been totally confident in it. Thanks for sharing.

You can also get a tool to help tie that knot.
It's called the Knot assist.

Bobby,

I typically use a uni to uni as well and have never had an issue with it when passing through regular guides. Last year, I bought a Megabass XX Jerkbait Special which has "Macro guides" and after a few casts, the uni to uni would not pass through the guides anymore. I decided last year to just run leaderless because I was frustrated.

I did some research and was planning on using a modified Albright knot this year but then came across the FG. I will probably try both of them out. The Albright seems to be easier to tie, but that FG looks has me intrigued. I can honestly see why they say it is so strong. You are basically inter weaving the two materials together so I would assume it would take a huge amount of force to break.
