Specifically, dropshot.
But if I know I'm not fishing deep (>10') that day, I'll tie on a light weight tube or wacky senko and skip those lures WAAAAAY back under docks or overhanging trees like nobody's business. Caught a 4.5lb largie on the Rideau doing this - she was tucked up basically in the root system of a willow tree overhanging a good 40' swath of the river. I recall skipping the senko so far back that it hit the base of the tree, and then she SLAMMED it. The fight was pretty epic as there were all kinds of weeds around, and the rod had to be kept low to clear the willow branches. But I got her in, no prob!
I (shamefully) use a Kistler magnesium series 6'9" MH spinning rod for both dropshot and senko. It works.
I REALLY prefer the drag system on spinning reels, too. I use a Pflueger President reel and it's butter smooth. 20# braid and an 8#, 8' CFX fluoro leader for dropshot.
I think I know that tree
I'd be surprised. There are more than a few giant willows on that river. ;)

Personal preference aside it just seems logical to choose spinning gear over casting gear to throw light baits. One design is open faced with little to no resistance and the other requires you to overcome inertia to get a spool moving.

Shallower spools formed using top secret material sourced from NASA, upgraded bearings lubricated with endangered albino beaver oil packed in to a frame sourced from Area 51? All to cast light lures almost as well as a mid level off the shelf spinning reel?

So someone can fillet a fish well with their custom samurai sword and years of practice, why didn't they just use the fillet knife?

Kinda like spending a bunch lowering a truck, putting low profile rubber on it so it handles more like...a car. Would make sense if it retained the truck like capabilities I suppose.

"It looks sick though"! Yes, it sure does.

Omg! Best post ever!!!

I will say though, some people just enjoy it and I totally get it. I fish with what I like to fish with and although I don't get the BFS craze personally, I do understand their mentality. I prefer fishing with baitcast gear so if I ever did need something for those light weight apps, I already know what I would grab. Although the BFS aldebaran is sweet, I would probably pick up a pixy variant.

I love my spinning rod... got a bait caster for my birthday last year and I just can't get the feel for it.

My son got his bait caster for Xmas and he's already switching... he's a wizard with it already.

But the Japanese "Shimano guys" know the power of the dark side.
Like I said before .... quality finesse bait-casters are expensive.
Not even going to talk about Daiwa and Megabass finesse spools.

I'm sure a chimp fishing with a spinning rod and a wacky rigged senko would catch more fish than I would on a bait caster

Keep at it man, I love spinning rods but don't put that baitcaster down!!
I would find it hard to skip a average size to big daddy frog under trees with a spinning rod!

They both serve a purpose in my boat.

My 6'9" bronzeback replacement is in the mail!

Love that spinning rod! Detects the subtle smallie bites on the tubes and grubs....great rod!

I wouldn’t worry about it, Chimps have made it out to space….you and I probably never will!
Now let’s hope they don’t start signing up for fishing tournaments… :?

He can bring all the bananas he wants. It can't be worse than last season.
A spinning rod and a wacky rigged banana just might be the ticket. :banana-explosion:
