Seeking best shoreline trout holes near Ottawa

Postby Expat Fishers » Tue Jul 18, 2017 9:24 pm

Hello!

I am a returning expat (originally from Montréal) and my 13 year old Pittsburgh son and I are looking for the best shoreline holes (as we do not own a boat) near Ottawa (either in Ont or QC) where we can fish some trout. Gps coordinates work as well!

Thanks,
Dave

Hey welcome back. I doubt you'll get many GPS coordinates from an open forum as a lot of trout guys will keep their holes secrets and take them to the grave.

Do you have a truck or 4 wheel drive?
How far are you willing to go?
Willing to walk a bit to lakes or looking for drive right up kinda thing?

I don't know too many close to Ottawa on the Quebec side but trout fishin on that side is generally better if you have a spot to go.
On the Ontario side the calabogie area has lots of lakes with trout but it is about an hour drive from Kanata. A lot of them have crown land campin too if your looking for an overnighter. Fishing isn't crazy there but you can find some nice trout.

Going to be hard pressed to find any one willing to Gove up trout spots I think.

Best bet is to either hire a guide like otownfishingadventures
Or
Use fish-online and search lakes that say they have trout in them and go try them out.

 Thanks for those GPS coordinates Zippyfx! All fished out and I do not hook minnoes! lol

Fishaholic, no, I got no 4x4 or pickup, but yes, willing to travel over an hour outta town, and yes, willing to walk a ways from car to get to the hole. I used to live in the QC Laurentians, but never fished this way yet. This is why my son, an avid geocacher, figured asking would provide easier direction, by car or foot.

Thanks for the responses guys.

There's a bunch of lakes close to the road in calabogie.

Scully for specs, shiner across the road for rainbows. There's a small little lake called marbel with specs a couple minute walk from scully and shiner.

There's stubinski close to the road but I think there is no live bait allowed or something.

There's limestone lake for rainbows or large mouth bass and perch if you can't find the trout.

St.pierre lake for small specs.

Wabum lake for lakers, I've never fished there tho.

Those are a few lakes close to the main road but if you check maps (fish online tool is good for this) you can find all kinds of trout lakes in the area.

The ones mentioned above receive more pressure since close to the road but you can catch trout in those locations. Hope you and your son are able to get out and have a good time. Lots to explore in that area.

Here's an interactive map/website of Quebec and the different species and water access info in the corresponding lakes. Just zoom into the area that interests you and go from there http://carte.allonspecher.com/m/ lots of places within an hour of Ottawa.
