Pretty simple response to all this rubbish about opinions and advice...Opinions and advice are only good if listened to...If the guy wants a truck then someone telling him to buy a car will not work...Who cares what people think they know...people will never admit they dont know something...everyone always knows something...look at me I think I know what I am talking about here but guess what I dont...I am just muttering for the sake of muttering...MY OPINION is this...WHO CARES & LETS HAVE FUN FISHING!!!!!
Not taking sides here but I do have an "educated opinion"....
I owned a 96 lumina for a couple years
bad points- as stated bad tranny's..FREQUENT gasket problems, (many lumina owners have reported the same but I am pretty sure it was GM's 3.1 motor in general not only that car) I do believe that they also are available in the 3.4 which is a better motor (not as good as the 3800 offered on other models however). and frequent strut problems
good points- Never ever left me stranded, and the car got over 500,000 km on it.

lets say they are like trucks; sorta like the Honda El Camino. Not a truck, but rather like a truck or has some characteristeics of a truck. then again, a Safari is GMC and they don't really make trucks either; they are like trucks.
Great look what we, er rather I started; a Ford / GM debate. My F-150; that's a truck.
heers,
Scott

not being wealthy[hence no dodge durango]
or wanting to be in debt...
i have used awd safari's and astros...i have a 94 right now..
i get em for what the new vehicle buying public pays for taxes..
always under 5K$....
yeh they are tin cans...but
they have the guts to tow my 20+ft deep vee fibre glass bath tub of a boat
along with a not inconspicuous trailor and Evinrude HO 225...
my point is that i agree with mr thread starter...
im pull my boat all over Ontario/Quebec...and that motor /tranny just keeps chuggin along..
though err ahh...i would kinda like to own a newer Safari some day...
