From BIG JIM to all Fish Hawk members

Post by Big Jim »

Hey Hawk Dudes, hope all is well with you.

Just putting up a short post to say Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words that have been said. They really mean a lot more when things are going the wrong way for you.
Although I am still waiting for the final test results on my bones and lymph nodes, I am by no means planning to leave any time soon to say the least.
I am an old roast beef with a concrete block for a head and the ultimate goal to be a winner against this crap that is in me. It has no idea who it has picked to tangle with this time around.

As one of the boys from Shimano said "Large, you have lots of people here pulling for you in a huge way... you must owe them a lot of money"
and that is exactly my attitude... high as can be with a smile on my face, and the people close to me feel it and are some how responding the way I would like them to...with kind thoughts and "lots of humour"...no "why me's here"

Did I tell you the one about my first trip to the specialists??? Here I am sitting in the examination room waiting for the Dr. to come in and tell me for sure that I have cancer, when I spy the box of rubber gloves and it says in big blue letters...MEDIUM!!!!...Wow, felt like I had won the lottery, at least for a few minutes.

All you guys out there anywhere near 50...pay your $30 and get the PSA test which is why I will still be here next summer. In fact if I ever here of a Hawk Dude getting in over his head and the test could have prevented it...cancer won't be your number one threat.
Don't beleive any crap you read on web sites...unless it is fishing tips from me :D. You need a Doctor to help you not commments from people who heard it from their uncle

Thanks again and I wish you all a Merry and safe Xmas :D :D :D

Pay attention to what the big fella says about the PSA test. My doc suggests it to all his patients over 40. He's had 3 who came up positive. They would not have been diagnosed or would have been diagnosed too late if they had not taken the test. Cheaper than a case of beer. Think about it. Mention it to your doctor.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Big Jim,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Get well and put as to shame with all the big fish you pull out of the water. Congratulations on winning the rubber glove lottery. Thanks for all the advice over the past year.

Be well,

Your right on with the PSA test Jim, I'm 45 and had mine done this spring for the first time, for the $30 it cost its well worth it and for the peace of mind it also brings.

That test is the saving grace for men,and I've had two but not to get off topic BUT doesn't OHIP give a damn about the male spieces as much as the fairer sex with paying for these tests.
OHIP will pay for tests to do with females but not for us guys.
I am not complaining about the cost(well worth the $30.00) but that OHIP doesn't cover it.

Good luck Big Jim. My thoughts are with you. My doctor told me that the psa test is good, and the physical (finger) test is also good. But, to be the most conclusive, it is advisable to have both. The doc was humming hahhing and dancing around the finger test again. I think he is more uncomfortable about what I think. I had to finally tell him "Doc, let me see the worse of two evils, CANCER or, your finger in my butt for about 5 seconds, I think I'll opt for the finger!" if your hitting around the late thirties early forties mark boys, get ur butts in to your doctor.

Keep up the positive attitude big guy, it's just like fishing.

I had to wait over 9 months to get my 2007 physical which is coming up in February and even though I'm only 43 ( ya right ) I plan on getting all the nasty old men tests.

I think I'll book my next physical before I leave his office so I can get it within the year.
Catch and release them all

Hey Jimmy,

Although I was shocked to hear the news, I know what a fighter you are...and just like you put a strangle-hold on largies, you'll do the same with this bump in the road.

For someone who published my very first writing piece (and put me on the cover no less!), I certainly look up to you as a mentor, and of course, a good friend.

Looking forward to hitting the ice with you this season...let's try not to get the truck stuck like we did that one time on Mississippi!

Merry Christmas to you, Tammy and the girls...

All the best,

Justin

Hey Big Jim: I' am a new member as of today, but I've heard about you for some time now. A number of fishing T.V host mentioned you as the one to go to for any fishing topics or advice. Sorry to hear about your set back, and I' am praying for a total remission. Keep up the good fight bud. It sounds like you are not alone here. Hoping for some good reports soon.
