This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rope lures work well, as do minnows/mackerel/smelt with trebles!

Using a bobber, suspending a big minnow/mackeral and a treble with stinger hook always has worked well for me. If you're in the right area the gar usually find it pretty quick, hook sets usually are about 50/50.

just wondering, would a Salmon hook (with some bait or feathers) on a fireline work!?

i have caught many steelhead (salmon hook, eggs, 6lb mono), which is all bone you really have to set your hook hard. catching a gar should be the same idea but instead of mono, use fireline!?
