MNR and # of rods

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

MNR and # of rods

Post by bm_attar »

I usually take 2 rods with me when fishing. A baitcaster and a spinning. Both are 2-piece rods. I only ever use one of them at any time. The other one is still in 2 pieces and out of the water.

Yesterday a friendly fisherman told me he saw a guy getting $200 fine for having two rods, even though only one was being used. I hate these "saw a guy who saw a guy" stories, but I don;t want to be in that siuation if it was true.

Now I am confused. I see people in kayaks and boats with 5 or 6 rods. So it doesn't make any sense that on shore you can only take one rod with you.

Am I risking it by taking more than one rod with me while shore fishing?

Doubtful,

I haven`t seen anywhere in the regs you can`t be in possesion of 2 rods.
I may be wrong, but I am surprised on that one.....

I`d call the Kemptville MNR office on that. I think they`re fibbing you.

bm_Attar,

My guess is that the person was probably casting and retrieving with one rod, while the other was being fished as a fixed bait setup.

With the exception of the Great Lakes, you can only have one Line in the water. The number of rods you have doesn't matter.

You can have as many rods in the boat as your wife will let you own
Provided you don't exceed the weight cap of the boat.

Only one baited line in the water per licensed angler (exception some areas of Great lakes)

I was going to say that I would have to get a second job to pay for the fines. Tell your friend of a friend that he is full of it. and to get better friends.

I believe I did read in the regs that you can only have one in da water, doesn't say you can't have a zillion rods in da boat!

Kinda like the guy who tried to tell me 12 ft muskies were in his lake......
I politely bit my tongue on that one.......

I love working the shows and hearing people caught 8 ft muskies that weighed 100 lbs etc.......

BS`ers are everywhere. Just go to a used car dealership if you don`t believe me!
