Joco,
The whole UPS thing is a consumer rip off. Have your order shipped using US Postal Service if the company you're dealing with provides it as an option. The shipping fees are somewhat lower than UPS, but you won't get hit with the big brokerage fee that you unexpectantly find added to your bill when you receive your package.
If they won't ship via USPS I would look for another company that will.
Another option that I've heard is that you can have packages shipped to the UPS store in Ogdensburg, where you can pick it up (for a fee). You'd have to look into this option as it's only something I've heard through the grapevine.
Cheers,
Todd

Definitely use USPS hands down.
The one thing to consider, ask them about USPS (air) vs USPS (ground) sometimes the difference is minimal and worth a few extra bucks to get it here faster.
I have had far too many parcels sent this way like, I just recieved a meat grinder through the USPS ground service, no problems at all.

I have alot of experience with ordering from the u.s.First off,if the item is 20.00 or less in value, there is no duty. You can order via UPS...as long as you opt for the expedited service(usually around 40 bucks)if you go with any other ups service, you WILL get burned.So...if your buying something expensive and large..go with the expedited from ups.You still have to pay duty on some items but there will be no suprises in brokerage fees.
Best to stick with USPS,but be prepared to wait!!I have waited 2 and a half months for items to arrive that way.Funny thing is items coming from china only take 10 days?

Hey Joco
I just got two Cannon Mini-Mag downriggers from the USA. Cost of shipping via US Postal Service was $62.00. They arrived in perfect condition and had to pay $ 36.00 in taxes. My advice is US Postal Service. They can carry larger percels and no rip off on brokerage fees. If you can get the shipper to mark your item as a gift, you might even save on the taxes, if below $ 100.00. If your item is made in the USA, NAFTA comes into play and there is no duty. Have your shipper send you the customs declaration number and you can track it via Canada Post. The riggers arrived in one and a half weeks.
Hope this helps.
Joco, spearfishing stuff might not be able to ship via international postal service. Check the postal regs before ordering.

Hello Joco, I have not imported that much personally from the US. When I have, I have had good luck with the US postal service. I used the premium service for tracking reasons. If you need help give my customs broker a call for advice.

Joco, this is the place in Ogdensburg NY. It is called the Corporate Center. 5 bucks to have things shipped there. Just register with them and they will give you a client number.

It's a smart idea for sure on their part I'm just wondering how your dealings with them in the past were?
