Best Smallie outfit??
I love hearing all the different opinions on rods and reels...
What in your opinion is the best Length and action along with reel for tubing for smallies? Same question for soft bait jerk baits??

My tube rod is 6'9" baitcaster with a M/L action & fast tip. 30lb Power Pro with 6 or 8lb mono leader. This rod handles my 3 1/2, 3 3/4, & sometimes 4 1/2in tubes in open water type conditions. As the tubes get to 4 1/2in. and larger and as the cover gets nastier I'll throw/pitch them with a 7'8" flippin/pitching stick. 50lb Power Pro and 12, 15 or 25lb mono leader.
By soft jerk baits I assume you mean flukes and fin-s-fish style baits. Don't throw them, but if I did I'd use the two rods mentioned above depending on conditions.

You can pretty much use any rod and reel set up for dragging tubes, in general I like to use lighter equipment. So this would be my standard set up-
7' med action
spinning reel with good drag(any size reel)
12 braid w 6lb fluoro leader connected with a barrel swivel to prevent line twist.

tubes = 7`medium spinning rod with medium sized reel, 10lbs fireline
with a 6`leader of fluorocarbon
jerkbait = 6`6 medium spinning rod with medium size reel spooled with

i use to use a 6 10 bait casting med heavy fast rod and my fishing partner was always out fishing me couldn't feel the bottom very well.switch to a med fast 7 foot spinning with a 2500 stradic and a world of difference.the switch was remarkable .worth every cent to change .....
i use 8 to 10 pound mono but going to try braid with floro leader this year
best of luck
