Vacation Ocean Fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Vacation Ocean Fishing

Post by Lucci »

So a few weeks ago I was in Maine with the girlfriend and family on vacation and seeing as we were right on the ocean not fishing was not an option. We booked two charters to go fishing on the week and we had a pretty good outing both times.
Caught a few smaller one which were keepers

and the family caught a few nice sized ones

and then the big ones started to come

and then i caught the biggest one of the trip 39 3/4 inches

It was a great trip and we all had a great time on the water, we'll definitely be going back next year.[/img]

Hopefully you got the chance to try one at the dinner table. Stripers are one of the finest table-fare in the ocean.

To answer your questions, first, yes I did get a chance to cook one up for the table; there's nothing like eating a fish thats been out of the water for less than a few hours, or onen that you caught yourself, i guess you can really taste the blood sweat and tears. The fight these guys put up is unmistakably a bass fight. They dont give up, I was using a medium action 7' big water rod with an okuma avenger 40 series reel, with 12 lbs test, drag set pretty loose, you dont really reel them in they will just run your drag, realy powerful fish. they take about five minuits or so to reel in the smaller ones, the big guy in the last picture took well over 15 minuits to reel in, just playing back and forth, but when the big guys decide to run theres really not much you can do to stop them. One ran me for 300 yards with my drag set as tight as possible without snaping the like before i ran out of line and he made off with my entire spool.
