Halloween Muskies

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Halloween Muskies

Post by lapointeric »

Made a last minute decision to go fishing on Halloween. After seeing the snow falling on Friday night, I figured it was a write-off, but we decided to go anyway—if nothing else—just for the experience.

Here's what I learned: snow + fishing = cold.

Cold and unforgiving, but still somehow inviting.

The bite started slowly, but I eventually coaxed one into biting with a slow moving chartreuse spinner. The hookups seemed to happen in slow motion, you'd think you were snagged for a second until your line started moving sideways.

I had another thumb piercing courtesy of this toothy critter.

It was far from a serious injury, but it wouldn't stop bleeding. I bled on everything, including all my lures.... which coincidentally, is when the bite ramped up!!

With plenty of juice left in the battery, we motored over to some new water. Action was slow for the first hour, but I eventually hooked into this beautiful gal who fought incredibly hard. She was some upset.

Best Halloween I've had since I was 10!

What? No costume?
Nice job though, especially on a day when the weather was less than pleasant.

Mostly TREATS, though a punctured finger wouldn't fit into that category. Still, some blood and gore on Halloween is to be expected, after all. The 2 times I've been stuck by tiger teeth, I bled like a stuck pig, too. Maybe there is some anti-coagulant in their spit -- like a vampire, LOL.

We had snow showers here as well. Bing Crosby's tune, I'm Dreaming of a White Halloween popped in and out of my head all day.

Nice bunch of esox!!

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Nice, skinny water ski's! Must be a hoot. Are you seeing many fish beyond what you're hooking up?

@ fatluke - I like your optimism. I agree..... one day we'll find a way to convince her to bite.

@ joco - Kayaks would work super well in there for sure. Maybe one day we can plan a trip.

@ GetTheNet - Only other species I've seen in there is carp. We saw a small dead catfish just this weekend, and of course there are rock bass and perch.
