You guys talking about weeks, try having 6 months between seasons. The last 17 years I've fished exclusively for muskies and only 6 to 6.5 months a year. As of late I have been getting out more then 100 days during that 1/2 year thanks to guiding.
Things may change this year now that I live on the water and ice fishing will be in my backyard as well as my new 2011 Avalanche is a 4x4. It will have to do untill I see the need for an ATV.
I just ordered my new fireplace and pellet stove and my railling parts come in at weeks end. This week I'll be building my wife her entrance benchThis will keep me busy until christmas that and the 3 jobs I have to finish.
I just work a lot, read a lot and surf a lot during the winter months. Somehow I manage to make it through the off season just fine, the last month or two might be a little long though.
I may need help from you guys with this ice fishing thing, I still have my hand auger, a few rods and tip ups that have not been used in over 17 years.

Years ago I had a family on the Rideau River for a days guiding and later in the day the wife hooks about 4-5 largies in row in the 3-5 pound class in 20 minutes...her husband starts on her as all these bass came on fairly large musky lures and he was riding her butt something fierce about how a musky would kill all the bass if they were around ...he then hooks a baby lunge about 18 inches long ...and out of the blue here comes a well over 5 pound smallie and absolutley drills this little lunge broadside...shakes the crap out of it and splits all in about 2 seconds flat...needless to say it was a long rest of the day in the boat...she rode him something fierce and they both tried to get me on their side.
Almost ice time...

Thats pretty cool big jim, you don't hear that type of story too often, smallie smacking a muskie . I hope the bass were kind to ya on your home lake, your neighbour lake produced well this year, however, too many campers eating too many fish . Bring on the ice

eating to many
Hey Nips, no doubt about the eating part man...when I first moved down here I was shocked at how many fish went in the frying pan. Also niticed how many 12-14 inch bass you could catch without on bigger one some days ...that right there says classic overfished to me...Pyzer confirmed it to me.
Good thing the growing season here is a bit longer than up in Ottawa ...always seems to be just a bit ahead here.
My little swamp is pretty well cooked from ice fishing and the lure of the secret pond ...anything that bites here goes back to the campgrounds as a special dinner guest...
Take Care

Big Jim, I now know why there are no more decent pike in them waters now, I was ice fishing last year, we counted at least 15 pike caught in a few hours from a group of guys and they were all cleaned for the table. These guys are out there all the time too. The felt the need to drive over to us and throw the carcasas on the ice, to show us what a pike looked like Drunk as hell too.

Re: eating to many
About that secret pond?, is it privately owned? I heard stories about people sneeking in there to fish, but never have. The owner of that campground is a #$%^&*( ---hole.
