Pike Lake in Quebec

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pike Lake in Quebec

Post by Whateverbites »

[*]

I'm in Ottawa and catching a lot of average to small pike. They don't seem to get too big around here. Hour or two north I know they can get huge.

Don't need anyone's secret spot, just a general idea. I fish oit of a kayak so ideally no huge bodies of water. Thanks in advance!

I've been catching a ton in the Ottawa but nothing over 5 lbs and hoping to go somewhere with at least the potential of a 10 lber or so. I don't see anyone catching bigger pike in Ontario an hour or two from ottawa in Ontario, hence the Quebec reference.

The St Lawrence I'm just not sure where is appropriate for kayak fishing in November:)

True enough, or even the Ottawa can sure blow up. I'm not sure I'd want to go out in a kayak period in November, but I know guys do. As for not catching fish over 5lb in the Ottawa, well perhaps a change in strategy may work, like fishing deeper, or up sizing your lures or even trying extra large live or dead baits. Just a thought.
As for the Quebec side, 31 Mile comes to mind, it's known for large pike, but it's still big water and fall weather can be touchy.
Good luck, it's one of the best times to fish for big esox. Cheers

The reason many people don't catch big pike is because the fish the same spots the catch small pike. At these spots you will occasionally catch huge pike but yuo are playing with msall percentaged. Big pike are kings of the roost and take the prime feeding locations. You will occasionally catch big pike trolling the weed lines but that is generally were the smaller pike hide from the bigger pike. Look for areas which concentrate the baitfish as a start.

Learnt alot watching/reading/listening to this guy.

Thanks a lot to Smitty and Zippy, as you said Smitty it seems like 31 Mile and that area hold larger pike, even in some smaller bodies of water. Think I'll make a last foray this weekend, still figuring out the particulars. I'll report back if I go.

Thanks for the info Zip. I've been fishing in areas with a lot of muskie too and as I understand it you tend not tp get big pike/muskie near one another. Thx for the video, very useful!
