WHEN SHOULD THE BULLHEADS AND CRAPPIE FISHING START

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My guide for barbotte/bullhead/mupout fishing has always been when the dandelions are up it's time to head out.

Cheers

You may not find many in Whitefish, I've been here for a couple of years and only see 1 or 2. I think the water is a too clear for them. Cranberry isn't as clear so maybe a better option. There are crappie around though, just need to find them. Where are you located on WF?

I've only been on Whitefish for a year and am located on Bass Bay. It would be nice if the water warms up a bit. I still haven't got my boat in the water and now they are closing the boat ramps and barricading them. If I find a ramp I can use I will probably put the boat in sometime next week.

Crappies have been biting since ice out. Look for fallen timber or docks/boathouses in south facing bays with a dark bottom. 4 to 6 ft of water. Slow, slow presentation.

They are definitely hitting. Catfish on the Ottawa have also started (slowly) hitting.

Got the boat in the water today so will get out as soon as the next two days of cold and rain are over. Thanks for the input, it was very helpful.

Caught a 2lb Bullhead near the mouth of Green's Creek. Koodos to @FLOATFISHIN for letting me know of this spot.

That's a channel catfish, not a bullhead. Size and the forked tail is the giveaway.

Really? Thought it looked like a Catfish. I assumed it was a bullhead because of where I was fishing.

Further up the creek all you will find is bullhead but near the Ottawa is a different story.

I was right next to the mouth of the greens near the ottawa. It was really windy today so I moved a bit downstream.

I checked the water levels near the bridge on the parkway and the water seemed too low to hold anything nice.

Mine lives in the boathouse so ramps weren't a concern. But I see down further you did get yours in. Good stuff. Find any crappie yet ? I've been all over the lake with no luck yet. But if you want to drive to deans rd in SB they are biting in that bay.
