For you Carp Fisherpeople
For you Carp Fisherpeople
Just got back from working at the Toronto Sportsman's show and I must have talked to 50 people that have already started Carp Fishing in Lake Ontario. A couple of people said that they have already landed between 4-10 Carp this past week. Where exactly they were fishing i don't know, but I noticed that all the bays off of Lakeshore Blvd are open and even saw someone fishing off a pier.
Since I have never done any Carp Fishing I didn't know the amount of equipment that is available or needed for it. People were spending up to $2500 on equipment not including rods and reels. I guess I shouldn't be suprised since I spend that on plastics and tackle for tournaments every year.
Anyway, good to hear that people are really getting into Carp fishing and that they are catching some.
Cheers

I have never targeted Carp either but would like to around black rapids this summer.
I would like to suggest a fish-hawk day at either black rapids or long island locks, the fishing isn't that great there but iot is suited towards bringning the whole family and I have heard of people carp fishing there.
I've been holding off trying to talk John into taking me one day, guess I have spilled the beans now eh!

carp fishing
I went fishing at the manotick dam a lot last year. You can fish out of the water. The water goes to your waist. Last year I saw probably 15 to 20 carps at the bottom of this area, huge carps. I only tried to target them once last year at this dam, I used bread balls, I wasn't successfull. But I will try for carp this year, armed with more information. I head over to the dam again, hopefully they will still be there this summer.

It's good to see that it's taking off and that should make it easier to get tackle instead of having to send away to the US or europe.
For anyone who doesn't have access to a boat this is the ideal species to fish for. $2500 on tackle isn't too suprising especially when starting out although it can be done fairly cheaply if you are wise with what you purchase.
I'll be more than happy to take anyone out to get their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.. carp there's a good chance you'll have a few. I think bacon had over 10 when he came out with me and nearly all of them were over 20lbs
I plan on putting some time in from mid may to mid june before the 1st main spawn... as that's when they'll be at their biggest and the greatest chance of getting that elusive 40lber.
My previous best in europe was 38lb 12oz and in canada last year i had one at 34lb (pictured in my avitar) and another at 36lb. When you see the fish in the water you'd think they'd be up that size but i'd bet most of the fish people see are in the 20lb bracket at best.

carp fishing
hey all,
I'm in for some carp fishing this summer. A guide, or someone to teach me the ropes on carp fishing would be awesome. I hear they fight better than sml mouth bass pound for pound.

Carping rules!! Especially on a nice spring day, sitting out on the shore - lazy days!
Anyway, for all you Quinte fishers: If you finish your day on the bay, swing into the #1 dam (its just off the 401 in Trenton) and park your butt there with some kernel corn (or corn meal balls are better), lay back and watch your rod tip.
Ive caught lots of BIG carp there, and in the current they are a handful. Plus at the same time you can catch every other species that swims. Crazy fishery that one.
Another hot spot on the Bay of Q. is in Carrying Place around the mouth of Dead (Man's?) Creek. Lots of bass and bullhead as well.
