Pier fishing along Coast
Pier fishin
Phitty;
Never been there to do it, but if you hit "fishing in SC or NC" on the browser, it will open up a lot of alternatives.
Have talked to people who shore fished in North Carolina and they fished from a beach using fairly heavy spinning gear.
The browser will probably be of good assistance.

Pier fishing
I've pier fished Phitty in Nova Scotia on the North Shore. It was fantastic. I couldn't keep th Pollock off my spinning gear.
The locals were using hand-lines and were hauling up Flounder.
On the west coast, I watched them fishing for Bonita this past year... Fascinating. Cast a string of flies out as far as you can with a transparent bobber half-filled with water. Then reel in as fast as you can. The Bonita attack the flies as they skim the surface and believe me, they fight hard.
ps. If you plan on trying it, go ahead and use your spinning gear. If the pier is high, make a net out of an old bicycle wheel minus the spokes and hub and attach a rope to it so you can lift the fish up onto the pier.
