It's a perennial for sure.
Pretty soon, when pike opens, someone is bound to start a version of the following: "If they are out in a Bass Boat, they must be targeting OOS Bass"

But RJ there were no hooks on the Senkos! They were just "practicing" and "Fishing for pike"
That article kinda contradicts itself like some of the comments on it state. On one hand it says it is illegal to measure a fish of a restricted size but how do you know it is outside the slot size without first measuring it? The grey gets greyer.

There will be an influx of Great Grey Owls in the winter of 2017

Yes, I agree that there are some stupid ignorant A holes out there.
You can find them on both sides of the fence.

I agree Maverick, it always pops up the last few weeks before ice break up. It is the 'Crack Debate', referring to ice crack up. Lol.
I am quite confident, if you are not a jerk, the CO would love to see those beauties too! They are after all doing a job they entered because they love the outdoors. And there is a great chance they too enjoy angling and telling stories of the one that got away.
We always seem to put police and CO's in some special 'Jerk' category, yet, at the end of the day, they are just enforcing rules that were put in place because our predecessors took advantage of a given situation time and again.
So Tia, I would say your post is as good as it gets! But be a jerk, and good luck! Karma is awesome!

Basically comes down to this, letter of the law its illegal to take a picture of an oos fish, might not say it in regs directly but if you have experience reading regulation its clear. Now why they dont add one sentence saying this includes taking a picture is pretty stupid, but its not the first or last govt reg that isnt written as well as it could be.
Are you going to get a ticket from a CO for snapping a quick pic, probably not. Personally I dont take pics of oos fish but thats me, if someone is with me and they take a pic while iam unhooking it or releasing it then Iam ok with that. For myself when Iam tracking my own PB fish I dont include oos fish in my "record book" so I dont need or even want a picture of these fish.
I fish for walleyes and lakers where both fish are subject to slot sizes.
Here's where it gets dumb: I catch a fish that's in season but just over the slot limit so I'm not permitted to snap a quick pic. I can take the time to measure this fish but I can't take a photo.
I just emailed the ministry about this and here is their reply....

Hello:
Thank you for your inquiry.
If you catch a fish that is out of season or you have reached your catch limit for the day, you must release the fish immediately. By keeping the fish to take a picture, you're keeping the fish longer than needed and you can be charged for retaining the fish longer than required.
Release of Fish
12. A person, other than a person fishing under a commercial fishing licence, who catches a fish, other than an invasive fish, the retention or possession of which is prohibited by these Regulations shall
immediately return the fish to the waters from which it was caught and, if the fish is alive, release it in a manner that causes the least harm to that fish.

Message:?Concerning "Immediate Release of Fish – All fish that are caught unlawfully or are illegal to possess (e.g., during the closed season, of prohibited size, or are in excess of the catch and possession limits) must be immediately released at the place and time of capture....." If a camera is immediately available, is taking a quick picture allowed prior to release?
Seriously though, what did you expect them to respond with?
Ever heard the phrase give an inch - take a mile.
If they say yes, Mr Outdoorsperson, please take a few minutes and capture that fish of a life, then it gets misconstrued as oh rats it's dead now, geesh I better keep it.
So yes it is illigal. So is speeding, even 1km over the speed limit. Have you done it? Would you suggest to your child to speed, no.
Cheers
Kerrazy.

A good fishing partner stops everything he/she is doing and starts taking pics. Right from landing to live release.
Is it illegal to throw a quick pose in while releasing?not in my book.
