your fully confident in that?
cause if you are, i need to do some respooling....
(last winter i was watching Aaron use a 8' flouro lead off 8lbs Braid)
when you talk about using leads off the braid, how long a lead we talking about?
36" or 6-8" (basically, length of rod)

i'm not at all disputing you markus, you have a helluva lot more experience than i do....but i was wondering, how long were those flouro leads?
I can't see an eight foot lead, even in clear water situations, being any different than mono onto a flouro lead....but i'm a newbie to trout...and they are quite a magestic species....

It seems to be common place that folks use 8lbs as the main line then a leader material to the hook.
The elderly gentleman I was fishing with a couple of weeks back was using 6lb test straight to the hook in gin clear water. All of the rod bending hits came off his setup.
He bucked the trends by fishing with a large dew worm off bottom (slip sinker rig) and the bait was raised off the bottom by tightly wrapping a small marshmallow and placing it just ahead of the hook (#12) with the worm.
I didn't think much of it at first but wow, the fish sure liked it.
He also made his own slip weights using nylon rope and split shot.
I'll put a photo collage together over the winter to show how it's done. He say's it's relatively snag free.

With the exception of ultra-clear conditions braid is the way to go when bottom-bouncing big water like Port Dalhousie & the Niagara River. Just watch the guys on shore at Port D, especially the ones that are consistantly catching fish, I'll gurantee most of them are using some sort of braid for their main-line.
Here's my setup for Port D or the Niagara. 8-10lb superline (TUF, FinS, PP, Fireline etc...) as the mainline, then I splice in a 2-3ft mono lead of 8lb Maxima Ultra Green (I also like Iron Silk). From the mono lead goes the 3-way swivel then a short dropper for my weight. Slinky from the boat & pencil lead from shore. For a leader I use 6lb Maxima Ultra Green or 6lb Florocarbon (Seaguar, P-Line etc...). Leader length varies depending on fish activity & water clarity, but a 3-6ft lead should suffice for most trips.
