More of Quinte!

Post by Wall-I-Guy »

Ok, where does one start. Let's start with November 21 st 2005, (that's yesterday in case you didn't figure it out) I'm starting this tale yesterday as, during the course of conversations on MSN with one MT Livewell, I subtly suggested don't be late to Mr Wiswell. Then again, in a PM the same evening, I once again made my plea, Hey Bill, don't be late. Now you think that would be enough right, well not me, I even made a comment in a post, in one of the threads Bill, get to bed!! hint, hint.

Well now, you can't say I didn't do my part. So the morning of the 22nd rolls around. knowing Mt will be here promptly at 4:30, worse case scenario, I decide to get up at 3:30. At 3:45 I'm outside in the truck, sitting, and waiting, waiting and more waiting. It's now 4:45 decide I'll call him on his cell phone....Grrrr :!: His cell phone goes directly to messaging. :x ... So my next step is to call him at the house..Problem, how do you spell his bloody last name..Whissell, Wiswell, Whisell....well the kind Operator I had, looked through all, no such beasts in Rockland as the Wiswell's (turns out I had the name right at one point). now what :?:

Ah, a brain storm, I'll call Markus who's on the road by now, surely he has the MT's number.......I get Markus' message machine..Grrrrrrr :!: Ok, into the house at the threat of peotentially waking the family when my Schnauzer goes berserk, doesn't happen, finally! A little luck :!: :) Have to check Fish-Hawk in case he tried to PM me... No PM Grrrrrrrr :!: It's now 5:05

What a morning so far. Finally get a break, Markus calls me back, he got my message. He asks "Where are you?" Still in the truck waiting for MT :!: "What the %##%$@^^%" ...Ha! I then start with the , "do you have his number " :?: "No" he emphatically states. Oh well, "what if he got into an accident or something" ... :?: "What do I do" :?: Well, I can't call him, don't have a contact number. Turns out, he doesn't have a cell....again, Grrrrr :!:

Well, can't wait anymore so start scribbling a note on a piece of cardboard from the garbage. MT, we're launching at the ferry, call me on my cell when you get there.. Remember, at this point, I didn't know he doesn't have a cell....Ok, I have to go now, Markus will be arriving and we won't be there. I hit the road.

10 minutes into the trip....ring, ring, ring...Guess who? "WIG, where are you"..:?: "I just left 10 minutes ago, what happened to you" :?: "I slept in"..."No kiddin' " :roll: :smile: "You still coming, want me to wait in Carleton place" :?: "No, better go ahead and meet Markus" " Sounds like a plan" "Call me when you get to the launch" "I can't, don't have a cell" :roll: "Ok it'll take you 3-1/2 hours, let's meet at 9:00 on the dock at the ferry."

Done deal. Put the pedal to the metal. After a couple hours, phone rings again, Markus was getting gas and was afraid it might all be for nothing as the winds were quite brisk. "No problem" I say, little to no wind here so far. We agree to keep trucking....As I hit 33 at the Gap, it looked beautiful out there. Big smile comes to my face :):. That almost changes as the phone rings again, it's Markus again. "Where are you?" "How's it look?" I ask. "It's blowing pretty good WIG but, it's fishable" Whew :!: Great news. Again he asks "Where are you?" "5 minutes from the ferry" I reply...Wohooo! As it turns out, I arrived at the ferry just as Markus was crossing from the other side on the ferry...:)

So we finally hit the water at 8-ish...The conditions were blustery to say the least. We kept at it though until we were to meet MT. And it pays off, with Markus nailing this beauty, a 10lber virtually at the ferry as we were trying to bring things in to pick up "Late Nate"..:)

Image

Get him into to the boat and we head out again. the winds were not kind, blowing the boards all over to say the least. We manage to work down to the lighthouse, couldn't go further for the wind and chop were wild.Fish on just before the lighthouse. "Bill take it" "No WIG you take it".."Bill take it" "No No No..go ahead"...(must've been a guilt thing) :!: :) So I proceed to reel this beauty in 9-10 lbs on the net scale.

Well as luck would have it that would be it for the day, we left relatively early due to the wind which was originally out of the North, switched slightly to the North east, before doing a complet flip to the North west. What a windy day :!:

As well, Markus wanted to get a good jump on the drive home as the fishing was frustrating to say the least.

All in all, just another great day with a couple great guys, for the few hours we did get out :!:

Thanks again MT and Markus :!: We'll have to do it again :!:

I'm sensing a keel hauling is due for the fashionably late man from Ottawa :evil:

"Bill, get to bed, hint hint".

I got the hint and was promptly in bed before 10pm last night. Even set the alarm clock myself (which may have been my downfall).
5:30am I jump out of bed, oh $h!t :!: Call WIG right away, and he tells it bang on.

So, while he continues on his way, I dress and jump in the cold van and hit the highway. Made it in record time too. 8:43am I arrived at the ferry. I knew the boys wouldn't be grabbing me before 9 (and likely a little later cause I knew they'd be in no rush to tear down the spread). As I looked out on the water, I saw a boat but was not sure if it was the boys, so I gave a little wave. The ferry driver came over to me and said "are you trying to get their attention? I can honk the horn". I thought that would be cool, but instead passed on the offer and thanked him.
I was watching the boat in the distance not sure if it was the boys or not. Saw an orange suit and a camo suit, must WIG and Markus but not sure. Yes, it is them, Markus has a fish on. :roll:
Took a quit shot of the boys tearing down.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... ngdown.jpg">

And got ready for the onslaught of ridicule that was well deserved.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... launch.jpg">
And a little more as we made our way out to our first trolling destination ...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... yBirds.jpg">

These 2 are great fellas to be stuck in a boat with. Even if you are the butt of 90% of the days jokes. :lol:
We trolled quite some time as the winds picked up. Got a bite and WIG was up in the rotation (I was graciously moved to the end of the rod rotation as my penalty :( :lol: ).

WIG brought in this beauty. He is actually trying to smile, but I believe his mustache froze and his face was stuck this awkward expression.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... oSmile.jpg">

Spent the remainder of the day fighting the wind, getting caught up, and sharing great stories. As I say, you couldn't be trapped in a boat with 2 better bananas.
We decided to call the day a little early as the temperature kept dropping and the winds kept increasing.
We shook hands, kissed babies, and exchanged the myriad of equipment we were buying from each other and/or picking up and dropping off for others. In the end, Markus' van looked like Santa's Xmas bag.

WIG, thanks a million for taking me out today. And both of yas, thanks for stopping long enough to come pick me. :oops:
Let's do it again real soon, but not before 9am.

Despite the big blow, I had a great time guys. :P

We had to go back in and get MT....he had the sandwiches. :lol:

WIG has a great set up in the new ride and I can't wait to get back out in it sometime. I love the big jon planner masts, wayyyyy better than the home job I have.

Bosc, we ran taildancers, manns, fingerlings, powerdives and jumla's. Both fish came on the jumla's.

Even though MT was late, I felt bad that he didn't get a turn on the rod. We did miss 1 other fish that released the planner line and took a little dag, but was gone in seconds. grrr.

Thanks for the day fellas! I'm looking foward to ut next time.
