first attempt at ice fishing?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

first attempt at ice fishing?

Post by scttsmpsn »

Headed to the cottage; small lake north of here where it is always colder. not sure if I'll be able to fish or not. Defintly not in the dark that's for sure.

There are a couple of spots from shore I might be able to get on where it drops off with a rope tied to me and a tree. Also thinking of sliding the boat onto the ice and sitting in it to fish.

Just so I don't get zinged, I am going to make darn sure there is aice and will take no risk. There is a raft still in the water that I can fish from if I can get to it. Might have to fashion a bridge.

Or if there's open water; trolling will be on the menu.

Cheers,

Scott

Checked my Crappie spot this morning. 4" of good black ice, maybe more but 4" for sure. I'll be headin' out first thing in the morning Saturday. I sure hope its overcast!

... no boat needed; 5 inches of good ice near my raft. The spot I wanted to be in had 3 and that wasn't enough for me to be comfortable. However, I think I found a new spot. 4 pickeral; plus 1 lost at the hole. 2 were 21 inches and one was a heavy 21 inches.

No pics, no camera 80(

Cheers,

Scott
