BOQ Ice reports?

Thinking about heading for the Bay (shermans point) Any reports of the ice thinkness would be great.

Never ice fished that specific area, but all other areas toward belleville & trenton are a heck of a lot better than last year's ice season! Looks like a breezy weekend coming up!

Out for the evening with the boys and threw everything we had at them but no luck tonight. We were on a good foot of ice, fishing in 10 to 15 ft waters. Had reports that it was a rockin' spot this morning so we thought we'd try for the late bite but it never came. Heading out to Moira Lake in the morning. Will post a report after the trip. I hope we have a better day tomorrow. Good luck on the hard water and be careful.

Just getting in from a morning fish up at Deseronto. Minnows are hard to find. Bakers did have them but not many. Ice is good for a few hundred yards out toward the island. 6-8 hard ice. After that it looked real unstable. I drilled my last hole into only 3" of ice. DONT GO PAST THE HUTS THAT ARE OUT THERE.

Our first line hit the water at around 7:30am. We dident catch any walleye. Only a few perch. Although we did see a few nice fish today.

If you head out that way be carefull. I did see a couple sleds out. But I wouldent take mine out there unless you know the area.

After an unsuccesful morning at Big Island I moved over the Desoronto at noon. I did manage some jumbo perch and one 10lb+ but no walleye. By 3pm the area was loaded with anglers, however, I only saw one walleye iced.

Cripes, if I followed that piece of genius I'd miss at least 4-5 weeks of the ice season. You can drive a compact car on 9" and a halfton truck on 12".

While It is always a good idea to error on the side of caution, your statement is true if you plan on driving on.

This quote is directly from the Lifesaving Society:

"Recommended Minimum Ice Thickness for New Clear Hard Ice:
3" (7cm) or less STAY OFF
4" (10cm) ice fishing, walking, cross country skiing
5" (12cm) one snowmobile or ATV
8"-12" (20-30cm) one car or small pickup
12"-15" (30-38cm) one medium truck (pickup or van)"

Notice in the first line "for New Clear Hard Ice". Also, 8" on shore does not mean 8" 300 feet away, hence the importance of using a spud early in the season to test the ice as you go.

I agree with Bucketmouth, we'd be waisting valuable fishing time. I have been at BOQ twice in the last week oe so, on less than 8", and I don't consider that I put myself at risk.
