ICE FISHING MUSKRAT (Cobden) LAKE

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

ICE FISHING MUSKRAT (Cobden) LAKE

Post by JC »

How do to everyone;
This is my first real post on the Hawk Talk/./././.

Going Ice Fishing on Cobden Lake in a couple weeks and I hear there are some big sturgeon in there, any tips or ideas how to land me one?
Never fished for them before, not sure what they like, especially in the ice.....

any help and I would be greatful!!!!

as well this is a great site, spot on...... really helpful the info, the community seems pretty helpful, and teh classified section is great, I will definetly be upgrading this spring so on a side note.......
if anyone if looking to get rid of a bait caster and a spinner I will be looking in about 2 months for 2 complete fit ups.

a big chunk of worms in the bottom should get you some sturgeon!!!

other than that dead minnows would be good too!!

and if you do get one dont forget to post it i just love those prehistorique things!!

good luck

I was there today... Arrived at about 7am and left at 2pm

Got two pike (kept one) about 3 to 4 pounds each.

we then went over to the pan fish area and drilled two holes between the two of us... in one hour we must have pulled in 60 perch

Suddenly my hole started to slow down while my fishin biddies hole was still going strong. Then my hole stoped and his slowed dramatically. Holes were only 10 feet apart!

anyway.. the locals there claim that it has been a very dissapionting winter for Lakers and for smelts.

Any more details on Muskrat

Post by phitty »

I'd like to fish it sometime, but wouldnt know where to start. If you dont want to share, PM me if you're willing to help out.

I see shacks in at the end of the lake near town. Is that the "panfish" area you're talking about?

I was out there Monday to Wednesday and got nothing, one or two bites, which is atypical of Muskrat. I tried a few different spots, Hydro bay, off of cedar point but now my huts out by the boat launch so that's where I'll be.

3 weeks ago we caught a bunch of good sized perch and 2 of them had yellow grubs in them, luckily not as much as in the summer so I just ate them in the dark ;)
