I normally troll between 4.5 and 6MPH depending on the bait I'm presenting...

I didn't want to be the one to bark, but at least there is an actual conversation now going on abuot tactics and location, which no one would offer up before.

And for the record, I am not a muskie newbie, but I am a wannabe because until your catching them consistently, like so few out there, I think we're all wannabe's.

If you've seen any past posts my boat has numerous fish in the 47" range, more in the mid-40's, and a ton of smaller ones.

Tricky, hit up Bits and Baits and grab some fudally's, I like brown with copper blades and maybe a black one with orange blades. Also, get in touch with Chris at River Rat lures...Can't go wrong with his tiger-tail spinner. Caught so many on it it finally snapped in half.

Not too sure if it was sarcasim for people to take me out, but as much as I enjoy going out with others, I've been trying to introduce more people to the world of muskie fishing in my boat, and have a good netman who comes out with me on most trips.

See you all out on the water.

I could snow you with a bunch of worthless drivel, but the truth is my muskie record is somewhere in the neighbourhood of my elephant hunting record.

Here is the only guaranteed, for sure, way to see Muskies that I know:
1. Get a beer.
2. Boot up the computer.
3. Get another beer.
4. Login to the Interweb super highway thingy.
5. Get another beer.
6. Start your favourite web browser. Wait, if you are reading this, you have already completed steps 2 and 4. Drink three beers now and proceed to the next step.
7. Get another beer.
8. Type youtube.com in the url dialog box and press return.
9. Get another beer.
10.
a) Search for videos using the following search terms:
  • muskie
    surface lure muskie
    Niagra river muskie
    muskie lures
    • b) View any movies that strike your fancy, interspersing with a round of beer in between each.

      11. Have a Bushmills.
      12. Return step 10a and repeat.

Got to agree with the getting beer part.

Musky fishing really takes one thing

Confidence and persistance

Gosh knows over the last 2 years I was ready to give it up but it is the hunt that I like.

Look for weed flats and fish the outside HARD.

Find a bait you like and stick with it, they will all produce at some time given the chance.

Change up trolling techniques, fast slow staright and with S curves.

Most of all fish with people who have experience and take lots of notes.

What works for me is I pound jerkbaits relentlessly all day until my fingers are bleeding, then when I cant take anymore I settle in for annother long bout of serious pounding

My Muskie Tactics is real simple.

1. Wait for phone call or e-mail from Mr. J
2. Agree on time and place
3. Show up on time (Not Like K-Pin  ...sorry couldn't help myself K-Pin)
4. Load boat and head to ramp
5. Put in boat.
6. Bring Tackle Box and only open it once for sunscreen
7. Use Mr J's Tackle all day
8. Troll or Cast, what ever J wants to do
9. Have a great day fishing with a great fishing partner!

Isn't that what fishing is all about!!!!

Some guys used to post lots of stuff on tactics, both fishing for muskie, and releasing muskie properly. Crazyhook and Hawg Wobbler ring a bell.

Anyone know what happened to those guys? I think some of you may have fished with them at one point.....

The problem with sites like this is who's giving up the information, a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks.

I use so many tactics on a daily bases it would be hard for me to just pinpoint one or two. Every day out there seems to be different.

Yesterday I had a couple of guys out for their first muskie chase and both caught muskies over 4 feet long casting small spinnerbaits.

It can be tough out there and I use a lot of stuff I never discuss even with the best of friends, not only spots are kept secret but techniques as well. I believe doing something different from others is one of the reasons I am successfully at catching large fish on a consistent bases.

So don't be stuck on one tactic but try to experiment and find others to rely on for those tough times.

Richard

You would absolutly hate fishing with me then

I pick a lure and fish it all day

Drives my net men crazy but it has proven well for me before.
