I stayed at a cottage there years ago (12). I believe there are supposed to be smallies, Lakers and as mentioned brookies in the river.
We were there mid Aug and couldn't get even get a sniff. From what I recall, there is very little structure to the lake. Its a widening of the river, hard packed pebbly sand bottom.

Oxtongue Lake
I am heading up to Oxtonge this week-end. The rivers both in and out hold brookies. Lake trout can be caught in the main body of the lake using either downriggers or lead core. Smallies are abundant but you need to find some structure (rocks) to catch the large ones. There is a hump in front of the big island across from the resorts, there is usually a marker buoy to identify it but because of high water nobody has done it yet. I will try and mark it this week-end. #2 Black Fury with a worm is a great search lure for smallies.
