Charleston July 5

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Charleston July 5

Post by Dartee »

Well as noted yesterday I was going to try to get on Charleston again today.

The morning started by waking up my 13yr old. Surprisingly he jumped right out of bed (10 min after the 1st wake up  )
Keeping him quite so not to wake up the household is another matter.

6:20 we were at the launch and parking looked pretty scarce (only 3 spaces). 1 boat only ahead of me , that was a relief.
Launch the boat an go to park... previous trailer took 1 1/2 spots, I got the last available (getting back out could get tricky if I got hemmed in).

6:45 first fish in 3 1/2 lbs on the Berkley.

7:00 am Nathan gets a 1/2 lber which we let got boat side.
7:10 while resetting Nathan's line my line goes off.
Was only 4 1/2 lb which sort of surprised me since it seemed so much bigger then the 1st.

From about 7:30 to 8 we get 3 more smaller fish.
8:15 Nathan finally gets one he wanted to have a pic taken with.

8:30 in comes another

We trolled around for another hr with only 1 knock off, up came the riggers and we hunted for smallies for another 1hr after that with nothing more to show.
Back to the launch, I wasn't hemmed in and didn't have to wait to pull out. As I was loading the mad rush of day trippers began..(6 boats) talk about timing.

The last 2 days sure made up for my rather dry month of June.

Lots of lake trout there!

Very nice.....my dad and I used to go to big rideau and we would catch our limit in Lake Trout and bring them home to eat.

The problem is they are kinda greasy so we would just throw them on the BBQ and burnt the hell out of them and they would be really good that way with lemon juice and some herbs......

Tasted kinda like a mix between tuna and chicken, weird eh?

That 4 and a 1/2 pounder looks much larger than that 3.5 lber......

strange eh? It looks pretty big to me.........weird........

Anyways, your son had fun I bet.......When I was that age I hated trolling around for lake trout....I always wanted to cast and shore fish....now I don't mind it......but dad doesn't want to catch lakers anymore, he's got his fill of them......Now he's onto walleye exclusively haha......

anyways, Great report!

Thanks for putting it up!
