Otter Lake report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Otter Lake report

Post by Mick »

Picked up Fat Rap and his son at 5:30 Wednesday morning and headed for Otter Lake. The weatherman was calling for heavy rain and T showers when I checked the weather channel before going to bed the night before. It turned out to be a great day, we never felt a drop.

We caught a few smallies on Otter Lake althought they were not jumping into the boat. Mike managed a 19 inch smallie for big fish of the day. He's got the pic so maybe he can post it.

We pulled out of Otter and headed for the Rideau. We hit the Rideau arond 3:30 and fished til 6:30. Nada. We fished the slop for a few hours, mostly with top water.

Question for anyone - I have been fishing this year with frogs for the first time and have yet to catch a fish on one. On Wednesday, I had 5 boils with no hookups, each within a second or so of my frog landing on the cast. I am not missing the hook set, the bass are missing the frog. It isn't just boils, they are coming up out of the water and missing. 5 on Wednesday and at least another 5 so far this season. I cast back into the same location and that isn't working. Anyone got any suggestions?

I cast back into the same location and that isn't working.
Follow-up by throwing a tube/worm/lizard/senko into the hole created by the boil. Be ready for the hookset because it probably won't get to the bottom.....

hey Mick...I like to fish the frogs a lot too...and exactly as Beachburger says, have a tube or other slower presentation bait at the ready. Wacky rig senko works well :). I give the frog 2 shots....one boil/strike and one rethrow to the same spot. then in goes the slower bait...and hang on :)
