Luckily, I've been around long enough to have caught a fair number of trout. Last year, for the first time, I actually PAID to fish, at an Outfitter's in Quebec. And what they call Quebec Reds are actually speckled trout.

Why is this?

First time I've heard that Quebec Reds are a subspecies of Speckies. I think it's a marketing ploy on their part.

Most of my searches come back indicating that "Quebec Reds" are in fact Arctic Char.

The Quebec regs consider specs as char and the limit is 10. I have caught reds before, and they are really red.

The reds meat is a little different too, i find it a bit sweeter. once cooked it stays more red then the specks.

Here is a "Quebec Red" I caught up in the Pontiac a couple of years ago.
I gave it to a friend of mine, and he said it was the best fish he had ever eaten.
