LF feedback on 5th Annual Toothy Derby

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

LF feedback on 5th Annual Toothy Derby

Post by Mr.J. »

I got a ton of people approach me at the Carp show asking me when and if there was going to be a 5th Annual Mr.J. Toothy Critter Fun Derby this year.

I don't know.

Why?

Because it's getting too big. 6 the 1st year, 12 the 2nd year, 27 the 3rd year and 37 last year total participants.

The whole idea behind the derby was to get out and have some fun and I am very nervous if the total anglers keeps growing at this rate every year then the fun may get away.

Talking with a couple of buddies last night and an idea got tossed around so I'm going to fill you in on this idea and see if it something that may work.

1, Pre-register via email. Obviously we can't send cash by email but at least I'll have a list of participants. You would still pay me in the morning of the derby.

2, 12 hours before the start of the derby I send all participants an email. In this email will be a common item that must be included in the picture of your fish. This guarantees the fish you are registering was in fact caught during this date. This common item could be anything I come up with. For example a bottle cap or a fork etc.

The biggest question is...would this keep you away from attending the derby?

J....simply ask participants buy a newspaper from that day....pretty hard to falsify the headlins on that day.

And some feedback for you.....don't win your own raffle prizes or derby....just sayin'....
If Winnipeg gets a hockey team, Toronto will want one too.....

I pay my $10 just like anyone else

But hey I didn't bring this up you did

Just because I got the ONLY musky one year means I ruled. :P

I took (take) a lot of critisism for winning one year but it seems the only one it doesn't bother is ME.

Hey... I like the ideas and would love to attend this years event. A common, but unknown household item in the photo is a pretty simple method for everyone... like who doesn't have a fork... or a watch... or a sneaker...

Here's hoping it continues.

1. The host does not participate in the event.
2. Do the event windup at the Kars launch instead of moving everybody to Broadways restaurant.

This is a fun event and I can't imagine why the host would have to sit on the sidelines also the the meet back at Broadways is just as fun as the day on the water itself, sitting with 30 anglers in one place is always a blast

Grant it's your turn to take me out this year

YES the orginizer does fish this FUN event, and why the HELL do or should we need icons to identify fish caught during this FUNevent   ..... I've missed one year and have caught Zero pike or muskie, but the best time is all the laughs and meeting differant people at the post event.
Cant imagine people wanting to cheat for a small (but awesome) trophy and maybe a few bucks in cash

J, for myself, if your being pushed too much ..... dont even bother, you worked on this thing too long and hard to have someone/body wreck this fun event.
I will be very angry if this does not go on because some folks dont understand the FUN aspect...... get a bigger one next year :P :P :P

The Clowns will be back, and you will not have the problem of winning your own derby :)

I couldn't imagine not having a "Toothy Critter Derby"

I say keep it as is...those who disagree can always start their own.
