Record Mud Puppie?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Record Mud Puppie?

Post by nips »

Last night on the nation my buddy caught a 23 inch 4lb mudpuppie. We have caught tons of these things over the years but they were always small (under a pound). Is there a record for these greasy creatures?

YIKES!

Those freaks get that big eh? That's gross!

We catch em here on Otter Lake quite often usually in the 10-12" range. I think the biggest we ever caught was about 16" and maybe a pound in weight? They sure give you a surprise when the tip up goes off and you pull in those things and they start wiggling around on the ice.

I'm curious now too, just how big do they get?

It is not a question of Honour!
It is a question, of "I would like to see it!"
My father told me stories of this fish!
I have never, ever caught one!
I look forward to your help!

Thats a huge mud puppy! I think they are considered an indicator species of environmental health.
They're kind of like a mini version of the chinese giant salamander...

Wow! I never heard of or seen a mudpuppy that size before! Can't wait to see the photo. I have only caught them under 15" on the Ottawa River.
