Laker fishing - Jan 15

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Laker fishing - Jan 15

Post by Out4trout »

My son & I were out for Lakers this morning. With the low pressure and south winds, our expectations were optimistic. However, the bite was OFF today... we got one little fella about 2lbs and that's it!! We did a Run-n-gun on 3 different shoals, 29 holes drilled. Pulled the plug at noon.

Anyone else try for lakers today? Wondering if the bite was off everywhere or just the lake we were on? Was a beauty morning on the ice with the young lad regardless. :)

I was out on Loughborough today, marked lots of fish tough to get them to hit, ended up with a 3lber and lost another one in an hour and half of fishing.

Too bad the trout wern't very cooperative.

Sounds like you had a good time with the young lad.

Thanks for the report.

We were out for lakers also yesturday Out4trout. The bite was definately off for us also. We managed to ice one, had one snap a line, and lost another at the hole.
We also drilled about 50-60 holes over 5 different spots. Very little showing on the vex`s, and the ones that did came up fast and aggressively on the lures but then just faded away with-out taking a bite.

Yes I was in the west end, the ice was inconsistant, some areas were 4" of soft white ice other areas were 6" half black half white. Be very careful and use a spud.

Thanks fellas. Seems lakers were slow biting elsewhere too.

I've been keeping an eye on Loughborough and the west end ice formed only in the last 10 days. Supposed to be -20C tonight, it won't be long and it will be safer ice!! 8)

Was out for Splake on Friday, (tend to run deep in this lake, much like laker fishing) and it was really slow. Got one good one, but it just barely moved the tip-up, thought it was another tiny perch bite . . .

We were on Loughborough Friday afternoon, went one for three. The one landed was on a small white tube jig, down 64 over 64 FOW. The two misses were dead baits on bottom in about 80 FOW.

Yesterday we hit a perch lake (O4T you know the one) and the bite was very good indeed, in spite of the blizzard. I did not speak with anybody who fished for lakers yesterday.

guessing today wont be much better, big high pressure building in. I was planning to get out but changed my mind when I saw the weather pattern.... AND the temp+windchill
