braid cutter?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

braid cutter?

Post by tbone1088 »

hey guys,
I was just watching real fishing with bob izumi on wfn, and he was advertising a new product from berkeley that burns through braided line and gives you a nice cut like nailclippers with mono. Anyone know what this is called and where I can buy it locally?

Side cutters. Any hardware store.

I doubt that's what he was advertising, but it's what I use and it does as clean of a cut as I could imagine is possible. You can get a cheap JobMate pair at Canadian Tire for $5.

That's what I use.

Small pair.

Go to CT and find the bin with the loose ones. Pick up a pair and hold it up and look at how they come together. Some side cutters fit better than others.

Good luck,

Its called the Berkley TEC Hotwire Line Cutter and they have been out for while now, I am pretty sure I saw some at SAIL in one of their "bargin bins" on Sunday.

I have one, it works as advertised. But if you are limited to how much crap you want to carry around with you. Side cutters can cut more things than just fishing line. The Berkley gadget only does one thing. And I have never had a dead battery in my side cutters.

So I would lean towards the side cutters.

bucketmouth that is hilarious!

There is a rapture on the lonely shore;
There is society, where none intrudes;
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more

Berkley came out with a smaller version of the burner this year. I have them in stock as well as braid scissors.

A good pair of scissors will cut better than side cutters :idea:

I agree with the scissors!! that is all I use. I find that with sidecutters it is real hard to get the last piece that usually stays on the split ring or the eye of a hook. The scissors are great to take that off.

Side cutters, 2 words will probably easier to search with.
