So last fall, I picked up an old tin boat 12x36 with an 8hp outboard and trolling motor, traded all for a snowmobile. Tried it out in October and while it was ok, it was not perfect.
So, this spring traded up In pcs to a 16' x 60" semi v hull with a 20hp merc. And I am really enjoying it, with my 2 small children. Much more stable, and room to move.
All this being said, we are new to this with the exception of annual walleye trips with the boys.
Last fall trips were dismal, cat fish mostly, so was a little disappointed.
Well this spring with the new set up, I feel like bob Izumi. I have only missed 1 day since Friday's opener and have 3 nice walleyes and a 4 pike to show for my efforts. My biggest pike was a 30" fella that was a breeze on my new bait cast set up.
Like I said I am a newbie to this and wanted to catch a nice pike.
I have been going nuts all spring waiting for the opener, and I am really enjoying it all so far.
Not sure if a 30" pike is note worthy to most, but it sure felt great knowing I really should invest in a larger net.
Cheers and great fishing folks!!!
Btw I have been fishing baie McLaren in the templeton section of Gatineau. Water is remarkably high this year so it has become a great fisherie, so far this spring.

The width of your smile is always more important that the length of the fish...

I love a 30 inch pike--that's a great fish. Way to go
No matter how many fish I land, it's ones that got away I think about most. :']

Hey Shawn
My boat is a 16' fibreglass burgundy top white bottom with Charmos on the rear port and starboard sides. If you see me be sure to say hey!!!

Nice to hear you are enjoying your time and getting on some fish. Make sure to grab yourself a camera and capture all of these memories. . . 30inch pike is a solid catch! Congratulations, cant wait to read about and hopefully see the next.
