Clayton Lake smallies

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Clayton Lake smallies

Post by slop »

I'm headed to Clayton Lake tomorrow and was wondering how the smallie fishing is on this lake? What can i expect to find as far as structural elements are concerned, is it shallow, weedy and stumpy, or is it deep and rocky? I've never fished it, so any hints or tips would be helpful.

Thanks.

Clayton is shallow relative to most Lakes in the area. Mostly weedy and TONS of stumps. Try near the islands on the deeper side, I caught a nice one there last year. There is also some deeper rocks which you can find by looking at the shore. Be carful in the shallow water for stumps especially if you go through to Taylor Lake, the channel is loaded with them.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info Gone Fishin' - I won't be fishing smallies. However, I will be trying to cull some largies and add to my pike tally.
