This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Where abouts have you been fishing?

I've been getting trout in the Big Waters out from Salmon Island, the shoal out from Long island and the out from the shallow water marker that is out in the middle (deep on both sides if you hit the hole right).
Been using blue and silver 4" Nasty Boys and Blue and Silver Williams Quickfish.
The shoals at the bottom of Donaldsons has also produced.

At the beginning of the season was catching @ 25' in 50FOW, now 35-40' in 80+FOW.
Been trolling 2-3mph slower hasn't been doing any thing.

Other then that lots of patience

Thanks Andre
I've been on the opposite side of big water.
Trolling at 45 ft over 80 to 120 fow
Don't know the actual speed, but have been told if I get the downrigger cable humming then i'm between 2 and 3 mph.
going out at 2;30 today, I'll give it a go on that side of the lake.

Let you know how I made out when I get back.

Thanks for the pointers.

... friends of mine have cottages at Charleston. One of my buddies who heads up there with us has never caught a laker after a dozen tries.

I would think that a downrigger that hums will do more to scare the fish than anything. I would tend to think it would scare them off. I could be wrong. Anyone have any thoughts?

As it has been hot you may want to try down deep; 75-90 feet. We still get some smaller ones up around 40 feet but we've dragged up some big ones from the deep.

I have been having good luck with a K12 Silver with blue kwikfish. We didn't have anyluck with gang trolls year. Did in the past but we were getting them on spoons this year.

Cheers,

Scott

Well I'm still beat when it comes to lakers. :?
I fished both sides of the lake today, tried 8 different lures and minnows.
Marked lots of fish again, but no takers.
Talked to a couple other boats, they had the same luck today.
Guess they just don't bite the days I go out. lol
I'll keep trying until one day i succed.

Scott

I asked the question regarding the cabel singing on the Great lakes forum (since more rigger use over there).

So far it doesn't really seem to matter except that 2-3mph appears to be the magic #.

To bad you didn't get into the Lakers ,,they can be frustrating but thats part of the challenge.

You may not be getting out early enough for the lakers. I find they bite best between 5am and 9am.

... MM is right. We usually fish 6am-10am and again at 3pm-6pm.

In respect to the downrigger singing; as I asked in the Great Lakes forum, has anyone noticed a negative effect for Lakers specifically?

Cheers,

Scott
