Best spring walleye crankbaits for the Ottawa River

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Best spring walleye crankbaits for the Ottawa River

Post by CSI-WALLEYE »

I am headed that way from Western Canada this spring and I want to limit the amount of gear I am taking. If you would share your top favourite or two including clolour and size I would be much obliged. If you would include a spring pike lure too, I would be downright giddy.

Thanks

Ok so 87 peeks at this post, and I am the only one to offer up some info?
I am kinda surprised, and well a little disappointed. Anyhow, I hope some other folks chime in as I know there are lots of folks out there with some great knowledge to share.
Cheers

Thanks guys!

Has anyone tried a flat rap (or similar floater) on a 3-way rig?

I did some experimenting with 3 way rigs and cranks and got nothing but catfish. I know on the Upper Ottawa some members do well with handlines and a 3 way set-up but the upper Ottawa and lower Ottawa are nothing alike. I've heard of guys doing ok on Storm Thin Fins behind a bottom bouncer.
Check your PMs. I sent you something earlier this morning.

In the spring early, i like to use an x-rap clown color pattern. They are a little pricy but effective.

That was so 3 years ago...and you caught way more bass then anything.

I really don't see you getting many walleyes on a regular x-rap as they are a very shallow running bait, unless you find some aggressive walleye shallow. You would be way better off with the deep diving x-rap or the Wally divers from cotton Cordell.

As far a colour patters go that all depends the water you are fishing. Natural for clear lakes and brighter for stained water.

Actually. ^^ is right about the cotton cordel. I just tried them last spring and I have to concour. I am not trying to be elusive, as I don't recall the name, but it is about 3.5"s very metallic orange with a green top. And the same in a chrome colour. Hooked a real nice 31" pike last spring at the beginning of a nasty storm. It was dark 9:30 ish and I was just pulling up my line to buzz off when I honestly thought I had a catfish and was kinda pee pee off thinking of trying to unhook the poo poo in the dark with torrential rain heading right for me. You wanna talk about an attitude change in a hurry when I saw him come out of the water. Oh ya baby!!!! I still have a crap eating grin thinking of it. lol.

Are you using the Crap shallow as a jerkbait or are you trolling it?
